I don't know if your missing something or if you're saying we don't actually have 21 senior players (without checking I'm certain we do).

What I'm saying is if Oxley qualifies as trained by the club, then we essentially have a 22 man squad we can take as he will take one of those spots at the expense of Jak or Harper who aren't trained by the club.

You are allowed to name up to a 25 man squad but if you can't meet the full requirements to fill that number, whatever you don't have (in our case trained by club players) you have to leave empty spaces for.

Hope we get Redmond, that would be another extra player for the European squad with him being U21, cracking player as well and got a hat trick for England U21s last night

I think have to have been at the club a certain amount of time before being classed as u21 in the sense that we don't need to register them.

Surely the truth is that MF isn't a quality PL standard striker? I'd be disappointed if he's retained (although I've liked him). We surely have to move on and upwards.

I'd have let Harper go too, but it sounds like he had the option to trigger the clause. Similar sentiments as above; we have to set the bar higher each year (no, not the crossbar).

This whole thing about 21 players came from UEFA & was on Sky too. They've said it must be 3 years from a certain age that have been trained by the club, they then must have done 3 years unbroken service, which is where Oxley fails having been loaned out last season. The fact we called him back early means nothing as the loan was supposed to be a season long loan. A shorter loan would not have counted as broken service.
As for any young British player U21 that we bring in, like Redmond, they will not be seen as anything other than a player, he would be ok in the PL like Brady was this year, but not ok for UEFA comps.
To make up the 25, those extra 4 spaces MUST be taken by players who have done at least 3 years service & developed at youth level by our club.
I assume the kids that are in their 3rd year with the juniors could be included if necessary but we definitely can't buy young players developed by other teams to be classed as available for our own developed youths.
I will try & find the Sky link later when I'm not on my phone for the first bit.

From what I've read & seen in the past, we can name only 25 players for UEFA comps, with no U21 exceptions unlike the PL, that's why the whole,"we can only register 21 players thing has come up," we can register 25 & probably will, but those 4 will have to be from our kids who more than likely will just be making up the numbers.
The only time we can change our squad for UEFA comps is after the January window if we are still in it.

I understood it as a 25 man squad where 4 had to be "home-grown" over 21 players. Then any other current U21 who is not included in the squad but can play. Not entirely sure though so you could be right.

    There are 2 lists.

List A - which is your senior 25 man squad

And List B - which is a list of any eligible u21 players who don't need to be registered in list A.

List B can have an infinite amount of players on it so long as they meet the criteria.

Well I didn't know that, but as we can't fill list A then list B is the old chocolate fire guard!

Weird nobody seems to be complaining that Jakupovic is staying all of a sudden. I spent the last two seasons defending him after people called him ****e after his one mistake against Wednesday. Clearly Bruce knows a decent keeper when he sees one.

I'm much more worried about having Harper as a number 2 than Jak as a number 3

Personally I'd like to see Oxley come in to the fold.

Not sure now of what I wrote before but here is the breakdown of list A & B & all details. Still on phone so only read a little bit, but the bit I did read about list A seems to suggest Oxley would be classed as eligible as one of our 4. Maybe things have changed or maybe Sky etc got confused too?
If anyone wants to make some sort of sense of it & put it into English, feel free.

Yes, Oxley should be eligible as a club trained player, depending on how they class his short term loan deals. I think there's some dodgy registration ruling about our emergency loan system (which all Oxleys loans were made through) where the loaning club has a temporary registration or something rather than the full registration when it's a permanent transfer or a season long loan. I may be wrong but I do recall it, maybe someone with a bit of time on their hands can get the football league loan rules to find out.

On the other hand, I was right about u21 players on the subject of them having to have played at least 2 full seasons here before they are eligible for List B. So going out and signing young English players won't have any effect on our Europa league squad numbers as they will still need to go on List A if they are to play.

It think Liam Cooper and Tom Cairney will both qualify as club trained for the A List, we should get them both back <whistle>

As would I, but apparently he had a dip in form before his injury at Oldham, so I'm not sure if Brucey would be worried he's not up to the task. A loan at somewhere like Brentford or the club that comes up through the play offs next week would be ideal for him.

Like a lot of these European things it just seems to favour richer clubs (or ones big in local terms) with bigger squads who know they will be in Europe every season. Any of those who would be considered upstarts who aren't expecting to qualify well beforehand just have to cope on the fly.

Agreed John. We are now well sorted in the GK dept.

Jakupovic played very well @ Spurs in the coc and Man Utd recently. More than showing improved form.
