In fact, not brilliant writing but the result of necessity after the scene turned out really badly and was mostly left on the cutting room floor
Im 32 and really dont get modern humour. The comedy of my youth or before is still the best for me. Red Dwarf Fawlty Towers (Moose - Hello, How are you today, I speak very good Englie) Game on (Ginger pubes fanny magnet or what!) The Brittas Empire Men Behaving Badly Vicar of Dibley (my guilty secret Im afraid, I cry my way through the wedding episode) Only Fools.(so many. The chandalier, Batman & robin, The broom, The open bar hatch) One foot in the grave (Im getting a picture of JWM for some reason, sorry just joking mate) Blackadder. and from earlier days Dads Army (whistle while you work, Hitler is a twerp, hes half balmy sos his army) The 2 Ronnies, Porridge, Open All Hours Monty Python (especially the films)
Police squad="It took me two weeks to find Stella's apartment...she had neglected to give me her address."
I have started watching secret army but cannot take it as serious as it should be after watching allo allo before it.
All very good comedys listed here infact there are very few I do not find funny that have been listed which is strange because there are actually very few comedys I find funny!! The best for me have to be Blackadder (the Tudor one) and Fools and Horses. But I thought I'd add a few from the modern era and a few that may have been missed: Early Doors (very underrated, from the writers of the Royle family) The Thick of It - Malcolm Tucker - F**king F**k Pr**k etc(very well written political comedy) Father Ted - Father Jack - Shut the Feck Up Getting On (favourite new comedy, very well written without punchlines) Gavin and Stacey (the new Fools and Horses IMO but not as good) The Office (most original comedy of modern times, absolute genius) Peep Show The Inbetweeners - Bus W*nkers
yes forgot about twenty twelve, very funny!! Only watch one episode of Rev, looked good but never really watched it other than that
Rev is quality The Kenny Everett Show! Show! Showey Oh! Now that is quality and it was all done in the best possible taste. Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister. Ever Decreasing Circles. Lee Nelson Well Good Show..is well good innit
....And don't call me Shirley! Hospital..what is it? Its a big building with Doctors but thats not important right now!
Retro tv is so much better than the rubbish that the cumbersome soaps and pathetic reality show crap that they currently show.
Bottom is the best comedy show ever, just for you my favourite episode.....Smells.. "Foxy stoat seeks pig"
Of the new comedy shows (recent decade) I have to say that my absolute favourite is 'Flight of the Conchords' - utter genius from the lads from New Zealand also worth a mention are (obviously) 'the inbetweeners' also 'Fresh Meat' but I've struggled to get into the likes of 'Bad education' & 'Cuckoo' so I would agree that the 'old ones are the best' Plus I used to be borderline wetting myself watching 'some mothers do ave em' - "ooh betty" absolutely hilarious... I also make sure to watch any repeats of the likes of 'Dads Army' and 'Open all Hours'
Psychoville (written by two of the League of Gentlemen writers) Two series and a Halloween special... Very dark, very funny...
As with great British music, great TV seems to be a 20th century phenomenon in its death throws. I saw a kid with a Who LP sticking out the top of his bowling bag and whereas we have an enormous archive of music available, DVDs series are just too expensive and there's no Spotify equivalent for TV. I would love to see the BBC make its entire archive available online, on demand.
Alan Partridge (any series, but especially the Linton Travel Tavern years) Garth Marenge's Darkplace The Day Today, Brass Eye and particularly Jaaaaaaam! The IT Crowd - "a fire? At Seaparks?!" Spaced - underrated. Does anyone remember This Morning With Richard Not Judy? Stuart Lee and Richard Herring at their finest.
