CH had the right idea make the strikers have to earn it next season. Say to them look whoever is the leading scoring forward gets the number 9 in the 2012/13 season

Tash not having a pop but think about it. He hasn't had a start, he's done nothing BUT come into games late on and has failed to make an impact (perhaps exception of Liverpool game) and hasn't scored. He needs minutes on the pitch, Lovernkrands isn't really performing and we don't have anyone else so I'd give Ranger a few starts while Shola's out. That being said I still think Ranger's a couple of years away from being a Premiership standard player and certainly not worthy of our #9 shirt.

Scoring isnt the only way of making an impact. I think the Fulham game is the ONLY game that he hasnt made an impact in. How is getting Koshielny sent off not making an impact? Torturing Liverpool/Arsenals/any other teams defence when he has come on. How is that not 'making an impact'?

Tash I actually think you're spot on...Like the lads and admittedly yourself have said, he does game time and starts will help this, but at the end of the day, he is young and has time on his side. At the minute it can't be about the individual, it's got to be about the team and his impact in the final 30 minutes of games is amazing.

It's like SWP a few years ago, bring him on and watch him torture defences. His pace and strength means defenders can't switch off without being punished (in a period of the game when they're most likely to).

So, yes he needs to start to improve, but you're spot on, he is a brilliant impact player.

Personally i think he needs a run of games. He's prolific at reserve level and some of his finishing in the reserves has been amazing, i think he needs the first team games to build his confidence as the ability is there. i keep saying to people that once he gets on the score sheet the flood gates will open and we'll see him getting on the score sheet regularly.

I said the same thing about carroll. Although we weren't at the races against fulham he had one effort on schwazer where he let the ball roll across him before turning and shooting. it was a proper strikers move and schwazer was lucky he landed on the ball as it nearly trickled under him. I see the ability and strikers instinct in him he just needs a few goals. give him a run of games, it would be criminal if we signed some unattached player and he wasn't getting his chance, it'd only go further to ruin his confidence.

if we secure safety from the drop zone, then i think he can start as many games as he wants, we can even put harper up front for all i care. but for the moment, if its best for the team to have him as an impact player, i think thats exactly what he should be doing!

The team is more important than the individual players

Right now, Ranger works best brought on as an impact sub with 25-30 mins left to go, to hassle tired defenses

Yes, it might hamper his short term development, but until we are mathematically secure from relegation, the team results are paramount, and what works best for everyone rather than single players is what counts.

He's only 19, he's got plenty of time.

Also, his attitude stinks. Bling Bling Ego - lets hope he grows out of it and starts grafting.

I also agree with Barton's Tash (for once). His biggest impacts off the top of my head this season have been against Liverpool and the 2 Arsenal games. I think it's good to bring him on early/mid second half where he can scare the defence ****less at a time in the match where they'll be tiring.

We cant decide how best to use Ranger until he has started a few games, for all we know he is better when starting, it'll sure as hell make him more confidence and give him more time to get a goal, so he'll be less panicked in front of goal.

On the number 9 thing, I notice Tiote wears it for the Ivory Coast ;)
