Has somebody quoted OLM's post from earlier this week yet I'm not disappointed by this as such, though I'm less confident of mounting a challenge for the top 2 than I would have been with Davies or Hughes. I know it's looking very unlikely we will get there with anyone but I'm just hoping for a vast improvement so that we actually look capable of challenging at least. The job he did last time shouldn't be underestimated though, he got the best out of some average players and got us from our lowest point into the play-offs spending a fraction of what Sven has. My only hope is that he can adapt his style of football to get the best out of a more talented bunch of individuals and a lot of egos.
I don't know anything about Leicester but having read most neutral accounts, it seems they didn't fancy you rather than vice versa. O'Neill was never going to go to a Championship side. Clark told you to sling it. Who knows who else you approached. Really liked Pearson so I'm gutted but your board seem to be a bit of a joke, albeit with a lot of money which inevitably talks.
Just to back up what Proud says: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15621888.stm Happy with this. Bar Hughes and O'Neill he would have been my pick. Surprised actually because I expected him to let Hull make their decision and get on with his job. He must feel he has some unfinished business here then. Anyone who saw him in the game last season will know that he still has an emotional tie to the club. He will also bring with him one of the most under-rated scouts in the game in Steve Walsh with him as well so I would say the money is in safe hands. He has, by all accounts, been playing some good passing football at Hull and I saw the game vs West Ham online and they did play some good stuff. When he was last here, he didn't have much technical ability within the squad and instead had a workman like team and so played to those strengths. Now, he will have a squad that contains much more technical skill and so I think he'll play to those strengths. We could do with a winger so I wouldn't be surprised to see a bid made for Cameron Stewart, who is probably one of the best in this league to be fair. Welcome home Nige!
Agreed . If he can get Waghorn back to how he was, then it'll be like a new signing for us. Interesting to see how he deals with Beckford, given his dis-like of players with 'ego's'. Hopefully Becks might benefit from Nigel's tougher style of management.
I am VERY surprised with this, We gave him permission to talk to Hull, He got moody about it and left... Then Hull refused to let us talk to him, so he got moody about it and looks like he wants to return? Odd :s
...wow this is getting a tad unreal... I would have bet anything Big Nigel would have said shove it... after he left 'under a cloud' ... mind you he did say Hull Chairman made him feel wanted, but he's gone and maybe doesn't feel so wanted any more... just can't imagine him back.. so strange... but think it would be a good no nonsense partnership that could work, sod the style of play, get them goals scored and start winning matches....
Just got in & hav´nt read any posts so sorry if I´m repeating here. I´m interrested in seeing who out of the current squad NP will want to keep & who he´d want out & then, come Jan, who he wants to get in. I think it´s rough on Hull all this, but this is modern day football & with hiring & firing as it is now a days... Will he carry on where he left off ? Will he get MF, MW & JH back ? Will LCFC finally settle down in the manager merry-go-round. Will he deliever the main aim ? This is all IF he comes back to LCFC of coarse ???
Of course I'll fully support Nigel if he comes back but he would not have been my choice ... MON first then Mark Hughes ... seen a few posts stating that MON would not go to a Championship side etc but that is largely unproven tosh ... which Prem siides would be attractive to MON who are about to ship their managers? Similarly with Hughes who prsumably left Fulham due to a lack of funds to build .. We tend to look at NP's tenure with rose tinted specs due to what came after ... but let's not forget that Nige often preferred to play Oakley in a wide position in preference to Max Gradel ... know who I preferred in that position ... and whilst we came close in the play-off final a tactically disastrous first leg at home left us with a mountain to climb in the second leg (albeit we nearly did it) .. When you get to the Prem you need some flair / charisma (and pace) if you are going to do anything other than just exist ... and I want to do more than just be surviving above the bottom 3 year in year out ..
Yeah Nigel apparently told the players he was going nowhere We told him it was bollocks and he was adamant his word was gospel. Hull look very desperate today with Liam Rosenior begging Nigel not to go
Agreed, but it shows where Nigels heart it. I dont think he was ever happy at Hull, first chance he gets to return and he jumps at it
Proud Your loyalty does you credit but to speculate that Nigel's heart is with us is something of a leap of faith - I suspect there are hundred's of thousands of reasons, but us being in his heart is not necessarily one. His footballing allegiances are more likely to reside in South Yorkshire or Teeside and the way his departure from us was manufactured must have left a bitter taste ... which has presumably been made sweeter by Thai promises
