The point is Rod THEY gave that as their reason to the fans, (results being bad) they also quoted the players being deconditioned??, now we know that is nonsense, plus they have history, what was it a 6 week extensive process to them appoint Holden . You are right we don’t know the real reason, but we know it had been going on for a while, hence the “nest egg”, they didn’t want him to spend it. It reminded me of the Cotts situation , certainly from the outside it appears they don’t like strong willed, experienced managers , they prefer young, up and coming ones they can control.
I'm not buying that. No way Sir Steve brought such a highly experienced manager to BS3 (for the first time in his reign, if we ignore the Coppell debacle) and was happy to avoid relegation for 2 straight seaason. You may kid yourself that he did, but nothing SL has ever done would suggest he gave NP that as an objective in his second year. Also, to say NP had no money is very disingenuous. Of course, he didn't have the money LJ had in his final 2 years, but equally, he didn't generate any until last season. NP was given £1.4m to sign a CB from L1, a large amount in 2021, amidst the COVID chaos and no money coming in, not to mention the wages for his ex-Leicester boys, James, King and Simpson.
They gave that reason to get rid of LJ as well, they have form, we know that. I didn't see you crying about this in the post LJ era when results clearly got worse.
Imagine being Dave Rennie, with the knowledge and experience he has in his field and being questioned by JL thinking he knows better.
I’m not kidding myself it’s obvious SL,( he isn’t a Sir).was **** scared of relegation, two seasons sorting out the mess and staying up was worth £m’s to him. You are kidding yourself if you don’t think Nige did a Stirling job just keeping us in the division whilst we sorted ourselves out. As he said in the podcast there are different forms of success, it doesn’t have to be promotion or winning things, keeping us up was success. The difference being it was a genuine reason with LJ. There was always going to be an adverse reaction to his reign, he left a bloated squad, with high wages, we needed a reset. Then COVID on top is why Nige did so well keeping us up.
Genuine reason for those who hated LJ from day 1. I have said many times that Nige did a good job in season 1, but only an ok job in seasons 2& 3. For NP to say staying up last season, and this season, is success is delusional, and maybe adds to the reason he was dismissed. Maybe he just couldn't get the vision.... Nige did well earlier in his managerial career, particularly at Leicester, but like many managers of his age, Bruce, Hughes, Pardew et al, their best days are behind them, a fact that I think many of our fans can't digest, as they just saw NP = success.
I disagree, he deserved an opportunity to have a go with money he’d helped generate, if he’d failed fine get rid, most fans believe the same. Had the board allowed him to use some of the nest egg towards adding a couple of extra players this season they’d have saved all the aggro they are now facing . It wasn’t only Nige that suffered, we the fans have wasted a whole season. That’s unforgivable in my book, the problem is they don’t give a damn, the attitude best summed up a couple of years ago when SL said “it’s my club”, no it isn’t, ITS OURS !!
I don’t want to start another ‘age’ argument with RP, but it seems a lot of our fans on here also like that old dinosaur type over the young up and comer. Why is that, I wonder?
interesting comments ... sad he went but was almost spot on with some of my interpretation regarding health...........................
This is the new man coming in now- i'm not knocking it but over Dave Rennie who is well respected in football circules - Cheltenham Town backroom staff member to leave for Bristol City New opportunity for sport science specialist after two seasons working with Cheltenham Town's senior squad
I agree there is a gulf in experience, but to your point on Nige and Liam, that ‘gulf’ in experience didn’t do us any good, did it….
Not when the crown jewels are pulled and not replaced. One thing we can agree on is Liam is going to be backed this season and hopefully can get a top six spot at the very least-if not then is that failure considering the backing he is going to get a 9-10 are coming in we know that and i believe Conway and Pring could be off . I rather see Wells-Cornick-moved on releasing wages. Love James to resign on a reduced wages.
