Actual quote from LJ what I could find "I think he's matured into a fantastic player," Johnson said. “I thought he was brilliant against us. When I took him to Bristol City it wasn't ideal circumstances. We were flying, he had a few groin problems, he wasn't the Ryan Kent that has gone on to have 150 games since. We just couldn't get that consistency in terms of his starts and his games. But as with all my ex-players, I always keep an eye out for them and I'm obviously delighted for him and proud of his performances and moves.
Guilt. Lee Johnson admits 'guilt' over former Liverpool and Rangers winger's failed Bristol City loan - Bristol Live (bristolpost.co.uk) I googled Lee Johnson Ryan Kent delighted and it appears Lee Johnson who was forced to take Ryan Kent was also hypnotised into stating he was delighted to bring in a player of Ryan Kents quality ..
It’s a fair cop.. Must admit, it seemed strange at the time he took on a player that seemed so poor… seems like he had an injury..
INTERESTING REASONING ... BUT not really a likely picture to base things on! Bring in a new manager .. has to be done! New manager 1 .... team plods on at same pace and we continue getting 1 . 2 pts a game or New manager 2 ..... team ends up in bottom third having achieved a point a game or New manager 3 ... team plays better and finish up in 7th [or better ] getting 1.5 pts a game+ [ 66 pts or better, about 7 pts better than NP is on track for ] the lansdowns/ board ..... lack of investment? A statement was issued that NP HAD A BUDGET that would be covered in the event that AS was not sold by SL ...WHAT we do not know is how much was on the table and what players were attached to the "deal" if it was a striker then we failed,. NP was happy with what we had [ begrudingly! ] BUT our inability to keep players "NOT INJURED" seems to be a bane of BCFC THE ABOVE ARE NOT OPINIONS but merely pointing out the alternative ways of looking at the situation IMHO I think this was an opportunist moment to move NP on. It cost very little money, remainder of his contract! From a loyality view point = crass . .. a gamble by JL [ SL ] et al that we can get a manager to do better! With the easier fixture list up till Christmas, and a squad returning from injury this should not be difficult. the next 9 games based on past 14 and a fuller "first choice squad" to chose from 18 or 19 pts should be a minimum [ even NP was likely to achieve that ] !!! ..............SO its not the "manager" = Lansdowns investment failure, it is the JL/BT/et al decision to change the captain mid voyage in the "hope" a new face will = more points!
The post I answered stated that Mr Johnson was "forced" into these loans, "had no say", "especially the Kent deal". Mr Johnson was not forced and he was identifying the players to bring in. The point was though the differences in approach. Mr Lansdown was financially generous to Lee Johnson, and this generosity extended to loans that look lavish financially compared to the financial support given to Mr Pearson. The two operated in very differing financial BCFC climates.
I still believe LJ was not allowed free range when it actually came to transfers, I still believe he would have requested players positions to be filled and would have been given a choice that were selected by Ashton & co.. this not necessarily came with quality, certainly not that of what was sold on..
Lee Johnson was responsible for what he called talent ID. He chose the recruitment targets backed by scouts Day etc, and the technical staff Gillespie etc.
Whenever people appraise NP’s management and (shock horror) mention points and league positions, the usual people object, waving bank balance sheets and comparing investments for LJs tenure but completely ignoring fiscal pressures from elsewhere (ie COVID) and the debate is reignited. Pearson did well with the financial constraints and that’s why I’m as angry as most in here he’s gone. LJ achieved higher league positions but spent more money. It’s simple figures and stats. There shouldn’t be any debate at all - but there is AND I LOVE IT
See Gillingham have appointed Stephen Clemence to play brave front foot football. Worried that City might miss the boat and get one that plays not so brave front foot football!!
Train up our strikers to score from backheels …….. Mind you, goals scored off any part of the body (except hands) would do right now!!!!!
Jon Lansdown. City have a top ten budget. City are not top ten. There six teams with parachute payments so City then have a higher budget than virtually all the rest of the division??? all while City have reduced the wage bill 40/50%???? for two seasons and cut the transfer spending massively. Latest Jon Lansdown interview is spew.
Let me guess, this logic won't be allowed to be applied to a previous regime? I have said all along, even under the 'sweetshop' years, we were only top 10 at best in terms of spend, and I think we still are in the top 10-15 in terms of spend (transfer fees and wages).
Well that's clearly going well isn't it, unless all the targets you claim told Lansdown to do one. Seems clear they pulled the trigger when they did for some plausible reasons ( whether you agree it was the right thing to do or not ) including they weren't going to renew NP's contract having not completed the job i.e have a replacement lined up
Didn't JL say he didn't recognise in this latest interview the short list the bookies have produced. Then I'm not sure why Lampard's odds have been slashed. The interview amused me, he tried, for me unsuccessfully, to put on an air of confidence as he was in control of this planned situation. It didn't wash for me........JL looks completely out of his depth.
JL is 100% out of his depth. If it transpires that it is Lampard, then it can only be for one reason: to raise the club's profile. We know SL has been looking for new investment, and what's the best way to raise the profile of an unfashionable club......
