NA quote: "I let a bit of negativity creep in for the first time last week, but I had to quickly dispel that" Explains his down beat performance in the post match interview. How, as fans did we allow that to happen? I like the expression "he iritates me" from our tame Hammer, I would like to hear that from as many teams fans as posible, it would mean that we were succeeding.
But he doesn't irritate me in the way Ferguson does at Man Utd, or in the way Redknapp did at spurs. You know how when you just want someone to fail but they just keep winning? It's more that I just don't like his face.
I remember a Scunny fan coming on to our forum who said you will love Nigel and he was right. He does a lot for our spirit and no doubt for the players as well...I expect they do pretty good impressions of Nigel. In low times in our life, we should all think what would Nigel say Even if positivity doesn't achieve all you want, it makes you feel....more positive. What is the point in occupying a miserable world....does that change results?
Nadkins saw his team play badkins, it made him sadkins, made us cadkins, and some us a tadkins, madkins, hope he's made some notes on his padkins, to make us gladkins and then he can be jacktheladkins.
Morrssey is a legend , smacking his bollocks on the crossbar of a bike and carrying singing a tune , what a man .
Hang on! Are you softening up.... You said "sometimes". You've been making it sound like its the only way!
Fonte says that the players like and respect the manager...we got 2 promotions with that situation. I don't think fear makes anyone work better...it can make you freeze and be afraid to take opportunities. If a player needs fear to make him work for Southampton, he's at the wrong club.
That video is absolutely amazing! Adkins is a legend, and I still stand by my opinion that anyone that wants him sacked is a bell end. (To put it politely)
I've been to loads of managerial workshops and there is always a common theme : If you gain the respect of your employees you can achieve sustainable success. If you manage by fear you can enjoy a brief spike in performance, which may last a month, it may even last a year. But in the end your performance will decline, because employees become conditioned to that fear, you have to keep upping the ante to achieve the same effect, it's not sustainable. I can't see any reason this mantra wouldn't be true for football.
I have experience of both types of manager. The nice one, that you knew would do the best for you, had no trouble getting volunteers when he needed extra effort, whereas no one stepped forward for the other one. There is of course a difference between a good manager who is pleasant and a weak one, that's a whole different ball game.
