'I love being at Southampton, I'm very very proud to be the Southampton Manager, I want to stay at this fantastic football club, I want to be here for as long as humanly possible' Here are the links to the interview: Part 1: http://audioboo.fm/boos/778392-nige...=retweet&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter Part 2: http://audioboo.fm/boos/778398-nige...t&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter#t=1m2s Nigel Adkins
Thanks for posting that...feel much better. Everyone should have a little talk from Nigel every morning. Glad they challenged him on his comment about leaving the club, proving it wasn't just me that was barking mad. Great reassurance. Strange, I thought players would be off, but they are in this week for their 'MOTs'. I bet a few are dreading the one on one interviews. He also mentioned respecting everyone at the club. His previous Chairman at Scunthorpe said yesterday that Nigel was a one off who treated everyone with respect. And SKD said he lets everyone air their views. Great man.
Yes, I feel a bit better after that to be honest, such a perfect day yesterday, would of been a shame to let that comment hang there.
If anyone has yet to watch the game and the pre- and post-match interviews make sure you watch it on bbc iplayer. Some fantastic scenes, including a big hug between Guly and our Nigel. Well worth a watch or three: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01h7j7b/The_Football_League_Show_2011_2012_28_04_2012/
Oh, that comment. When Fran mentioned something to do with this, I wondered what she was writing about. Nigel's just realising that a manager's job is a tenuous one. I'm sure he wants to stay long term though. All he has to do is perform to our esteemed chairman's requirements - every season..! Who'd be a football manager..?!
Was just thinking. One or more teams have been promoted and/or won the 3rd and 2nd division in subsequent seasons, and one or more teams have have been promoted and/or won the 2nd division and gone on to win the elite division the next season. Has any team been promoted from/won their division twice and then gone on to win the elite division in the 3rd season..? I don't think it's been done in England. Something to try for..?
Pretty emotional stuff, Billy was welling up, and what a year he's had, Fonte, really incredible scenes. After following as best I can as a Saint, and watching all the snippets from saints player etc throughout the year, I'm overjoyed for them, and myself of course. It was a close friends wedding too on Saturday, a fantastic day all round. I even mouthed to him 2-0 as he was waiting for his bride, just so he knew I was OK
I wish. No, just asking the question. Having read it through, I probably could have phrased it better. Basically, has any team been promoted from the 3rd to the 1st division and then won it - taking the minimum 3 seasons to do it in..? Do you know the answer..? Is there such an English team..? The laughing icon should have given you some indication of my tongue-in-cheek mood when I suggested it was something to try for.
Not sure about Fran , but I posted this . http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/141058-Dear-Mr-Cortese Listening to this interview has just capped off a Great few days !!!!!
No, I took it as tongue in cheek, but I've also noted your liking for a decent cognac. As for the question, I doubt it. Northampton did that 4-3-2-1-2-3-4 thing in successive seasons which is worthy of note in its own way, I suppose. Forest went up and won the Championship the next year under Clough, but hadn't been promoted from Division 3 just prior to this feat. United went up in 74/75 and came close to the double the next year, but ended up 3rd in the league and lost the Cup Final to a bunch of rank outsiders from down South. On reflection, Forest's amazing rise in the late 70's is the nearest anyone has got to achieving successive championships. Being runners up again next year wouldn't be a bad result. You can hear Nigel now telling everyone that he's "gutted" as Saints hadn't won the league.
