What we are talking about here Dave is some c*** (Anelka) who thinks its cool/radical/hip (insert your choice) to show solidarity with another c*** (Dieudonne), who is nothing more than an anti-semite, holocaust denying w*****, who thinks it funny to take the p*** out of an event that saw millions of innocent men, women and children killed in the most horrible way imaginable.
And if we let people like this continue to spout their sick, vicious horrible lies....then other, younger members of this world of ours, may also think its hip and cool, to do and think the same.

As I opined at the start of the thread, the debate was instigated by Nicolas Anelka's choices.

Hope you don't mind an outsider commenting. I was flicking through the reactions to Sunday's game but this subject isn't really only related to QPR, but rather one that affects English football (and potentially society) as a whole, and was the only thread i've seen on the subject. It's an excellent debate by the way.
One interesting aspect about this is that it demonstrates the power of the internet. Had Anelka done this 20 years ago most would not have batted an eyelid and I suspect even the national press would not have picked it up. Now there is no escape for anyone who wants to do this kind of thing.
Obviously it's impossible to read Anelka's mind and it is remotely feasible that he did not know what offence his actions would cause - as he has lived in the UK on and off for the last 16 years I would very much doubt that. The FA has to be careful with any sanction it imposes - for me whatever it does it can't be less than that given to Suarez as it sends out a dangerous signal - one rule for one group and another for others. On the other hand they then need to decide whether to go further. As others have pointed out John Terry and Luis suarez made comments to one person in the middle of an already heated exchange and were rightly punished. Had either of them celebrated a goal with a Nazi salute and said it wasn't meant as a political gesture but rather in support of a friend I'm pretty sure the punishment would have been even more severe.
I hope the FA does not back out of taking action on the basis that there could be a backlash from the Muslim community - there is no reason why there should be and if it is then it could not in any way shape or form be seen to be reasonable. Obviously if a player in the future is guilty of making an anti islamic gesture then they would deserve to receive similar sanction.

I think Anelka was very aware of what he was doing otherwise why would he have done it? He's just trying to play the innocent now there's a backlash. As you say Dan, the FA need to send a clear message regardless of what any Muslims or any others may think, they can't pussyfoot round it for any reason...

There is no place for any celebration that could insight bad feeling in the game of football. Nick was wrong to do this as it has caused offence however this gesture is well known to me and has been for some time ... its a youth thing and intended to be anti establishment. Yes there is a link between him and Dieudonne and from that all hell has been assumed. In the UK we have a lot worse people in the public eye who ruffle the feathers of the fools who read the daily Mail ... start with Frankie Boyle, Russell Brand and a host of others ... Christ even go back to Freddie Starr or the idiots of Halo Halo ... Either way we are allowed to be open until the Daily Mail and other hypocritical newspaper latch onto it.
