As an outsider I will add my bit. NM may have waited to see how you fared before making any decisions as to his future. Saying that he had no intention to sign might be a tad harsh. Too me he is a player that plays with instinct more than thought. He has a bit of speed and could well prove to be a great signing for another club but also it could totally backfire on them and not work out. If he has always done his best for you then rejoice in the time you had with him in your team. Rickie Lambert(sorry for bringing him up) is greeted well by his former clubs which for me shows the respect due to a player that always tried, even if not on song.
A few things. He definitely had no intention of signing! He ain't that quick. He hasn't always done his best for us. he had one good season really.
I accept what you say as I have not seen as much of him as you have yourself. Could his drop off of form be that other teams have sussed him out? We started like a house on fire this season, but recently have had a bit of a struggle. You will have seen that I know at yours. How teams have done that with us and have figured out how to play us. We will hopefully fight through it though. The alternative is simply that he isn't getting the service and unlike our main striker doesn't work as hard at linking up the play.
Was at the cov game, i saw no banners aimed at nicky. What i did see was a player who seemed distracted and playing in a way he made sure he didnt get injured (pulled out of several challenges) thats when the fans started chanting "we're not big enough for you" In response to the remark from Nicky he was looking to further his career at a big club. You could see this effected him and when the "super Brett" chant rang round the away fans his head dropped and del boy pulled him off (no jokes needed cjs). Idont blame nicky for looking for a bigger pay cheque, i dont blame him for looking for a move BUT he would do well to respect the love support and adulation poured upon him in his time at ashton gate. More worring for me was Adomah's reaction at the final whistle there sure as hell looked like goodbye to me!! (god i hope not)
In solidarity with our Bristolian brethren and in the spirit of this festive season, I will boo Mr Maynard from the very moment his girlie colourful booties touch the hallowed turf of St Mary's until he's subbed, pausing only to cheer everytime Saints whack in another, in the old onion bag. Cheers. Peace to all men, but not girlie boot wearers. please log in to view this image
Good luck with your game down the M27 tonight. 2 wishes for you............... 1. Nicky Maynard to keep his head up, lose his girlie boots and find his scoring boots. 2. David James to keep a clean sheet.
Abuse of any player is out of order. I said this before when Lee Johnson was being attacked by cidered-up idiots who didn't like the family connection. However, he isn't scoring, he is (probably) unsettling the camp, and I would put him on gardening leave - in fact he would have been transfer listed as soon as he refused to sign a contract had I been in charge. He is looking out for himself, which is fair enough, but the club also needs to do right by the club, and if NM isn't the future then drop him. Prem, I don't doubt his skills, but football is a team game and everyone in the dressing-room needs to be working together for the common cause. He has his own agenda and should be allowed time to follow it away from AG.
No offence meant by adding to the comments. As an outsider looking in, it seems this player may only give 100% when the occasion suits him. I just return to Bill Shankly's view that when you pull on the shirt you give your all. After all the bottom line is that the Club is owned by nobody else but it's supporters who pay the inflated wages. As Leicester were interested in purchasing, as apparently are Soton, will we see another above par performance tonite...? Many kids would consider professional football to be the luckiest and most attractive professional employment to be obtained. Well I wish I'd been good enough anyway!
Maynards alright as far as I'm concerned,if he scores a couple tonight everybody will love him,if not it can't be helped, good luck to him on his possible move and lets hope we get a good price..
