It'd be nice to see a Liverpool v Spurs NextGen game, rarely do our youngsters get to play each other.
I really hope that Kane can make the step up. He got 8 in the pre-season and he doesn't look like stopping any time soon. Liverpool's game ended 0-3, by the way.
Unfortunate result for Liverpool, Sporting were much more clinical infront of goal and their passing was much more crisp. Paid the price for being sloppy in defence aswell, they were great finishes from Sporting but they were all avoidable goals. Sterling still gave his full back a torrid time though. With a bit more experience and improvement in decision making we could've won that.
The beauty of an age restricted tournament is that experience is not a factor as they are all inexperienced, which is the reason for the NGS. I do admire you Liverpool fans for always being able to see reason to be optimistic about your team no matter what
Well, I know it sounds daft but Sporting Lisbon seemed a year ahead of our team in terms of maturity and experience. It's because of the way they coach in Europe, it's much more geared towards full time training and they seem to put emphasis on what you do with the ball instead of what you do without it, whereas in England because we move at such a higher pace it's just as important to know where to go off the ball as on it. I was the Not606 Liverpool correspondent for the game and it was honestly the most level 3-0 I've ever seen played. Chances at both ends, for lots of it we seemed like the much better side, the difference was they were more clinical in front of goal, they never hesitated, they knew exactly what their teammates were doing and we were caught off guard by 2 out of the box shots and a backheel splitting defence pass. Despite the scoreline, the way we played was promising. How did your own match go? Or have you not played yet?
We drew 2-2 from 2-0 down against Basel, I'm told. Didn't watch it, not even sure if it was televised.
Report on our opening game. http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/reds-crash-to-sporting-loss Liverpool endured a difficult start to life in the NextGen Series as they went down to a 3-0 defeat against Sporting Lisbon at Anfield on Wednesday night. Rodolfo Borrell's youngsters faced one of the finest youth sides in Europe and found themselves trailing to two magnificent first-half goals from Joao Teixeira and Alberto Coelho. The Reds stepped up a level following the interval but could not mount a fightback despite hitting the post through substitute Krisztian Adorjan. Farley Rosa then sealed the triumph with a magnificent third four minutes from time. The result means Liverpool are pointless following their first match in Group Two and will now look to bounce back in time for their Barclays Premier Reserve League opener against Norwich City next week.
Peter Crouch, Stephen Carr, Ian Walker, Nick Barmby, Stephen Kelly and Dean Marney all be to differ...
There are actually loads more. People like Stuart Nethercott for example. The premiership started in 1991-ish. To say we've had 2 homegrown players in 20 years is ridiculous
Marney has over 50 Premier League games to his name, mainly from his time at Hull. I keep forgetting to add Luke Young to the list of Premiership players to graduate from our youth team. Don't know why.
I can't wait for Coulibaly to play and score for the first team, his celebration for his second was brilliant!
