Everyone's entitled to an opinion I just wanted to find out who forms their opinion on what they've actually seen and who doesn't, I hate losing but I also accept it's part of football regardless of who the manager is. My anger is directed at ME for the reasons we've discussed many times which led to us scratching around for 2 emergency loan players a few days after the January window closed and came up with Pringle and Foley who hadn't played a game for months.
And who have been two of the better players and then duly dropped by our clueless manager!!! As mentioned before, it doesn't need lots of money, just a manager that is forward thinking, ME did not pick 3 defence minded midfielders against the team bottom in the league, that was dinosaur Dan, stop using ME as the scapegoat, open your eyes and see what is being put in front of you! For someone that goes to every game, you certainly don't seem to take much notice of what is going on in front of you!
At least this forum is a bit more interesting this week! Always better when there's opposite views. Perhaps Mick has gone as far as he can take us, but I'd still like to see how he'd do with some serious investment and I'd rather Mick had investment then some new manager walking through the door, he deserves that. Although tactically it can leave you scratching your head at times, I like his honest approach and how he stabilised the team. How it can be suggested that he's one of the worst managers we've had is beyond me, especially under the circumstances. He also deserves some credit for bringing in some decent players for next to nothing, shame he didn't start with some of those yesterday though, but I'm hoping a lesson will have been learnt from that display. On top of injuries to key players, the Championship this year is tougher than before. There's a lot of heavily invested teams also dropping points, so who knows. For what it's worth, COYB!
HAha, fair enoughski Castro but I do actually think he is probably the third worst manager we have had, in my lifetime anyway! If mick was given money I still think he would try to buy 6 Skuses and 5 Chambers. So tbh I for one am glad ME has kept his hand in his pocket
Well, where to begin.. Probably with the line up, little disappointed with the midfield selection but could understand the thought process (to an extent) The match itself was a complete non event, the atmosphere was surreal, almost like a festival crowd not interested in who's performing & just waiting for the next band, lots of background chatter but no real football atmosphere. The game was possibly as dull & boring as anything I've seen & there have plenty. There was no tempo no desire and resembled more of a Sunday morning kick about in the park. Credit to Rotherham, they were more like Ipswich than we were. They were solid, resilient, direct when necessary and determined to fight for everything, we played like the Ipswich of Roy Keane's tenure. As for what went wrong, it feels like Groundhog Day as I think every review I've ever given says the same thing. There is no one in midfield competent & confident to try and get involved & dictate play. It's clear that regardless of who plays there, we will struggle as we are set up that way & the midfield role is to engage in the game when we haven't got possession, and show no interest when we do, this in turn makes our defence look awful as they have no one to pass too.. Then revert to long ball to Murphy. Berra & Smith aren't in the team for their passing ability, but the way we set up only magnifies their deficiencies rather than allow them to just do their job. The side that finished the match at least looked like it could show some intent but whether we see that I don't know, personally I'd like to see Pringles play CM alongside Skuse as I'm not convinced he's a true winger that would have much impact the way we play. Feeney looked dangerous & only provided more egg on the Face of McCarthy for not starting with him. Hopefully we will see Feeney & Fraser on the wings before the end of the season. As for the booing, I have never booed the players, particularly at Half Time! But what we saw was simply not good enough and I spent more time looking at my phone/around the ground as it was almost too easy to forget there was a match going on
I do notice whats going on in front of me Spanish but its just that I have a different opinion to you based on what I see going on in front of me, I couldn't give a toss about whether you or anyone else for that matter go to matches or not but if I give an opinion its an informed one and I don't care if people disagree with me that's their choice. I had somebody arguing the toss about Town not so long ago, it turned out he hadn't been to PR since the Robson era but he is still entitled to his opinion on the current Town team even though hes never seen them play, we would all like things to be as they were then but that era is long gone.
I agree FM that someone that goes to most games will have a more informed opinion and I tend to take more notice of their opinion..... I don't get to as any matches as I'd like I probably go to more U21 and U18 games which I find entertaining.
Well he's clearly better than Keane or Jewell. If anyone thinks McCarthy has done a worse job than either of them two then I really will struggle to listen to anything they have to say on Mick McCarthy and current Ipswich Town actually. I would also say given resources / squad inherited Mick has again done a far superior job to Jim. Granted Jim played some good stuff but when he was given ££££ sadly it fell apart. If only we could have won away in 07/08 we'd have made play offs!
I think the comparison between Mick and Jim is a good one. Although I am such a big critic of Mick mainly due to his footballing ethos and what I believe to be his untapped potential as a manager, he has done a good job here and I think if we were to get rid it would be a case of be careful what you wish for. However whilst the releasing of funds will I'm sure improve our chances lack of funds does not neccesarily mean lack of attacking intent, creativity, courage on the ball or entertainment. Jims team pre ME was a great example of this, we didn't have the best team but he brought in players who were comfortable on the ball and his ethos was that players showed courage on the ball. Sometimes I feel the way we play under Mick is inevitable, it's almost like what he says is a self fulfilling prophecy. I believe Mick could get more out of this team in terms of results, and style of football far more than most other managers however I feel Mick appears to be the type of manager to get the best out of limited talent but is poor at getting the best out of talented players. I fear if Mick were to leave we are left with a very average squad which other 'lesser' managers who struggle to get anything out of, infact if Mick were to leave and we were to have a manager come in without personnel change we would be relegation fodder
Oh all day long Mick's great at working with a talentless lot on the main and getting reliable performances each week. His mantle of knowing what to expect as opposed to trusting the likes of Pablo / Jet from recent years ( I know he didn't have Pablo ) I can empathise with. I think last summer he was delighted to have Niles / Fraser and wanted to be more bold this season with McGoldrick /Murphy uptop. Sadly Niles has fallen off a cliff, Fraser two spells out and McGoldrick well yeah........... Plan B though is another stumbling block. Signing Pringle and Feeney are about the best we could nab in terms of budget etc, then both are on the bench vs Rotherham. Cannot make that up. Anyway I'm not going to slate him as much as others will as despite his limitations he's still a damn good manager. People need to be careful what they wish for.
