Do I get a brucie bonus for predicting everything right?
If you hadn’t specified the Hirst penalty, I’d have given you a bonus point.
The Gaffers's take.
Another 3 pts, we hoped for 6 pts at home, we got'em.
Terrific 1st half, against a supposedly strong play-offs Championship team, minus 2 players who left
2 marvellous goals, and Goal of the month, probably the season from Burnsy -on fire again.
2nd half, inconsistent and disjointed, rather flat and lacked movement and intensity.
The Broadie debate goes on, he played his part today, good energy, and got into threatening positions, made a fine assist, wayward passes and missed a sitter which my late lamented NZ 99 yr old Auntie would put her hand up and say, "I woulda got that boys!"
So, IMO really good 3 pts but we must kill teams off in 2nd half - the usual slips in defense, and cant wait to see Tuanzebe regularly lined up
We are in December and only lost twice - Leeds and West Brom, deffo the two strongest. But outstanding record for Town.
We all appreciate this is more or less the same team that got us out of the doldrums of L1.
No Mistake, this same team, plus one or two in January, is bang on form for Automatic promotion
I liked KM going over to appreciate and rouse up the fans - fans heard the Baggies lot singing "2-0 and you still dont sing!" That is embarrassing and I am not sure how true, and which stands the fans were numbed by the cold and flat play on the pitch, not to cheer and sing? Or is this the comedy 'Sleepy Old Suffolk' that my school mates used to jibe at me?! But, it was really cold. And KM really sang the players praises in his interview.
The Gaffer is in awe of our manager. We all want him to stay, many months, years and not be lured away to a grand posh prem club. Yes, like all managers, he gets it a bit wrong from time to time, like bringing on 4 subs at same time.
We are witnessing a level of performance and quality that maybe we shall never see again. This is a once in a lifetime- mine of 65 yrs a fan - and enjoyment at seeing our beloved Club play so well and so well managed. No era apart from Sir Bobby, have we seen such a transformation.
Let's hope we can sustain it!
I sat in Cobbold Block E yesterday, the block next to the away fans. It’s only the second time I’ve sat in that section. First time against Plymouth there weren’t that many away fans, so we didn’t really hear them. Different story with the Coventry support. They threw a few “2-0 and you still don’t sing” and a few songs about quiet home support. From where I sat, we couldn’t really hear the North Stand and Blue Action down the other end of the pitch. There was definitely singing from our fans, but due to distance and having the Cov fans right near us, you can understand why they thought Ipswich fans weren’t signing. Plus, when you’re 2-0 down as an away fan and home fans around you aren’t singing - you tend to single them out haha! I did enjoy Coventry’s “twist and shout” chant, something different - although it went on for about ten minutes! They had little to sing about on the pitch.
It’s rare we get games where all four stands sing during the match. Apart from the Norwich games and a couple of the games late last season and at the start of this season. Football fans are fickle. I think a lot of Ipswich fans turn up with the expectation of seeing a win these days. That affects the atmosphere when we take an early lead. The cold weather probably didn’t help either. The second half was mostly us killing the game off, so that didn’t inspire much from the crowd. Although you could argue that shouldn’t be required.
On leaving the ground, I must have heard several people moaning about conceding the late goal. What’s wrong with enjoying the journey? A win is a win. We’re second in the table nearing the halfway mark! Enjoy this for what it is, because we’ve not seen times like these for a little over two decades.
