I have placed my controversial prediction on the correct thread now. Thanks SD <ok>

That's what I feel about van Gaal and United, Spurf.

I hope you're wrong about that. Fortunately there is no guarantee that a lot of new players can suddenly form themselves into a team, and Van G didn't do particularly well last season when he had everyone available and was trying to play all the stars regardless of how much of a team they were - with Rooney in midfield etc. He did better with more limited options! Certainly there are a lot of players in similar positions for Van G to keep happy.

It was his first season and was more a case of trying to give everybody a fair chance to prove themselves, why do you think he gave Falcao so many starts until we needed the points to get 4th.

Few teams have looked like such a good bet to finish exactly fourth as Man U this year, or to be one year away from a title challenge. They have boatloads of talent, but for the second year have so many new faces it will be hard to integrate them into a coherent team. The three above them all look well organized and strong, with Man City and Chelsea again likely to finish 1-2.

While they played well last year, Arsenal don't have the depth of talent of either of the other sides except in attacking midfielders. More critically, while Giroud is an above average PL striker, and better than Welbeck, he is not a striker good enough to lead a PL winner. They need a Benzema, I think, to have a good chance at the league. We'll have to hope Wenger repeats his mistake of giving Wilshire game time, and that Ozil continues to go missing in big games.

I think United's aim has got to be to finish above Arsenal. They are the side closest to them, and are there for the taking, in my unbiased view. Chelsea and £ity simply have far too much quality in depth to be expected to make the kinds of consistent mistakes that will be needed to let either United or Arsenal have a look in.

Explain this "quality in depth" at City ?

Are you kidding? £ity have got about 6 quality players for every position!
