Can't wait to get this last game out of the way and see which way Tan takes this club. Another Slade type consolidation season after coming back down would be a disaster and the recent upsurge in support would crumble. I think that's the one thing that Warnock wont stomach - if he's going to stay, he'll want to go for it again and that is going to take a reasonable amount of money to be made available. If so, just hope he spends it properly this season and I hope it's dawning on him that to win games you need to score goals, not just keep them out.
Moving on from that thought above, if Warnock walks, he'll want to start the season with a club in his alleged final season of management. There's no way he going to come back in later and do another Rotherham job - he wants to win something not save someone. That's why something will happen pretty quickly. If he stays and despite his recent past transfer dealings, Tan has just got to trust his judgement and back him, otherwise it's pointless. Warnock has transformed the club and it is once again a collective rather than a dysfunctional set of split factions. The other option is to rebuild from the bottom with a new regime and that's the longer term option, but there are no guarantees in this game. To quote Hassenhuttl at Southampton - "If you want a guarantee, buy a washing machine".
NW mentions what Burnley did when they went down in an interview yesterday, and how he sees them as the template for bouncing straight back. However it doesn’t always work; just look at the number of ex PL teams in the league who failed to get back. It’s a great league; who would have predicted Norwich and Sheff U as top 2? For City to have a chance they have to buy really well in the summer in critical areas of the team. So agree with you on that score OS
There's the risk. You let him go, he gets snapped up by another championship club getting THEM promoted. Leaves one less place for us. Don't think colin needs more than £15-20M (actually, not sure I'd trust him with that much) to sort the squad. A couple freebies, couple quarter million pound punts, £3-5M each on a few midfielders and a striker, job done. No way should he put all his eggs in one striker basket. I've never bought in to this "you need a 20+ goal a season striker for promotion" lark. More teams have been promoted without one than with one. More teams with one have failed to gain promotion than have been promoted (though this season seems an exception to the former, but not the latter - west Brom had two score more than 20 this season and didn't make the autos.). None of the 3 promoted sides last season had a player score more than 20. 7 scored more than 20 this year, 3 had 22 and played for clubs out side the top 6. (Posts of goals in the championship this season). We need goals throughout the team. Harder to defend against, less issues when injuries strike, less chance of boom or bust.
Driving down to Dartmouth this afternoon for week's break with the 4 dogs. Will try to log in if the Wi-Fi is working in the cottage and check up on you retrobates later this evening. In the meantime, no upsetting any of our neighbour rivals till I do - I'll want join in.....
Are you going for the Dart Music Festival? It's usually around this time of year. Get yourself into the Cherub Inn and have a meal there - it's dog friendly. And be nice to the guys on the Kingswear ferry - one of them is a Bluebird. Also, be nice to all the Navy officer cadets - it's not their fault! Have fun mate.
Retrobates? Is that a reprobate who is living in the past? In which case your comment is spot on about us motley crew. Have a great week Sparks. Weather forecast looks good. Just you and the dogs or wife and sister in law too?
Well, got here guys and the wifi works!........ No festival clingo just chilling out. Actually staying on the Kingswear side of the Dart opposite Dartmouth back up toward Hillhead looking out over Brixham with Torbay in the distance. That Kingswear ferry across the Dart estuary is always a bit of a gut churner for me. You're so close to the water you feel you're about to dive, dive, dive - not in the biblical sense of course........ Cheers pal.
