Villa received their final parachute payment this season (£15M) after having £44M and £31M the previous two since coming down. They've spent pretty big this year and keeping Grealish rather than flogging him to ease their finances was a big gamble. They'll get nothing this coming season if they're still in the Championship and they'll need to cut costs. If they don't go up, expect some issues over FFP for them - they could be another Brum and get a points deduction. It might not be at the start of the season, but it could hang over them and be applied before it's out - just like Brum.
Grealish has a £30M buy out clause in his contract he signed last summer and that could easily be triggered by any of the top half dozen clubs. That would help as he's come through their youth system and the lot could be set off against losses, but it depends upon which financial year the sale actually came under. They lost £39M (right on the limit) over the last 3 years and just escaped FFP sanctions this season. On top of that, their outgoings this season are staggering and will spike. The two loanees Bolasie and Tammy Abraham alone are reported to be on £70,000 and £55,000 a week respectively - and that's in the bloody Championship.
Looking foward to hostilities being resumed. I think your young team is about to be ripped apart though and it will be a no contest. One serious interesting couple of months ahead.
Have to wait a little longer to know which teams will make up the league. Will City keep Warnock? Who will the manager bring in and/or sell? 4 derby games to come. Will we play Leeds? It won’t be long before it all starts again.
Cant wait.. Saying that will take in a bit of cricket. Leeds i think have blown it. Hope Villa go up. Just to get rid of them. With Swanseas hedge fund needing cash and Rooneys wages needing to be covered I can see us completing the first league double.
Stoke really needed promotion this season. 16th is pathetic really. Fair play to the Sox theyve consolidated well. If they didnt have their current owners theyd be well placed.
I fear the Yanks will indeed rip our young team appart, but that might well accelaerate their departure, going to be a very interesting season for both clubs......
Hell no. Before Warnock I would have said yes. But not now. Warnock is criticised for the style of football we play. What is wrong with getting the ball on the ground to 2 speedy wingers who like to take on and beat the opposition? Our problem has been having little creativity in midfield and a needing a centre forward who can score. Pulis teams have organisation at the back but little going forward. Also after a few years in the Prem his style, or lack of it, is now on the downturn. From what I can see Boro fans will be glad to see the back of him.
We needed Pulis who was out of contract at the time when Malky got the elbow, but we ended up with OGS - wrong person, wrong time. Still pretty well convinced that Pulis could have kept us up that season but the moment went and the next season OGS was gone and we got Slade and then Trollope - what a mind numbing 2 years that was. Warnock came on board, transformed the club and the rest is history, but swapping him for Pulis now would be pointless - they are far too similar. If we're going to change at all, it has to be to set out on a different course. Having said that, the Championship is no school playground and Warnock would relish the battle again. I think we would as well, but which way should we go then if it doesn't come off (or even if it does) should we start now or wait?
No to Pulis for me as other have said 6 or 7 years too late. I fancy Derby in the play offs. No need for us to worry about snow next season.
I'm sure Colin wants assurances over funds, but it appears tan wants him to stay. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...ws/vincent-tan-delivers-verdict-neil-16237051 Either way, we need a quick decision.
