A bit more speculation from todays Mirror.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/newcastle-boss-alan-pardew-facing-3447068#ixzz2zpSHvYmX

Alan Pardew is facing and end of season inquest with owner Mike Ashley into Newcastle’s slump.

The billionaire will hold his usual review after the final game of the season against Liverpool with Pardew’s side trying to cling on to the club’s bonus target of a top ten finish.

The sacking of David Moyes has added a new layer of intrigue to the calculations at Newcastle, with the owner a fan of the job Moyes did at Everton, a model club for Ashley.

Pardew will be battling to keep his job if United slip out of the top ten, and he has already had an official warning for his head butt shame on David Meyler.

The case for Pardew continuing next year includes the fact United were fifth at the end of November before they sold their star man Yohan Cabaye.

He has also not been given a permanent signing in the last two transfer windows, meaning the squad dynamic has gone stale. A top ten finish will also be a “par for the course” achievement, and is likely to see the manager stay.

But Pardew also has to prove he has the tactical plan and authority to stop their run of 13 defeats in 18 games, with just 11 goals scored. That run could get worse with away games at Arsenal and Liverpool to end the season, and a home game against Cardiff.

Ashley likes to thrash out the ups and downs of the season with his key men, and in the past those meeting have been tense, keeping his managers on their toes.

Last season it resulted in the exit of MD Derek Llambias and the arrival of Joe Kinnear, with Pardew surviving despite a relegation scare.

The league position is currently a more healthy ninth, but there are question marks over the club’s ambition, and how to keep the loyal 50,000 crowd at St James’s Park happy.

Pardew has insisted he still has Ashley’s backing, but their is also a vocal section of fans demanding a fresh start.

Ashley’s decision is whether to allow Pardew to spend a transfer kitty that should see two strikers and a creative midfielder signed as the minimum needed.

There is a question mark over the futures of half a dozen United players most notable Hatem Ben Arfa and Tim Krul who could seek a move to reignite his Holland career.

Squad men like Sylvain Marveaux, Steven Taylor and Gabriel Obertan are all likely to move on with Shola Ameobi out of contract.

It should add up to a major summer of recruitment by chief scout Graham Carr.

We wouldn't miss Marveaux and Obertan, but I think we could hang onto Taylor for a while longer.

To be fair to David Moyes, , he's the best of the worst of the candidates.

I'd agree with hanging on to Saylor - especially if Colo goes. We can't just have Willo + MYM.

I've no idea what has happened to Marv. Even with a depleted squad (when we had injuries, had sold Cbaye and Ben Arfa was missing) and were craving creativity, Marv still couldn't get a look in. Now even Gosling is starting games while Marv's backside doesn't even touch the bench. I never thought he was going to set the place alight, but I did think the last 3-4 months would have been his chance to shine if he was eve going to. What a waste.

Obertan - well, enough said. Hopefully he'll be gone. Anything we get for him will be a bonus.
