Now this is what I think will happen.

Decent track record in england, excellent track record overseas and working with foreign players and he's English. If Ellis reads McClaren's CV then I think he'll be our next coach because on paper he's a very good choice. But in reality <yikes>

Apparently he stayed at the roker hotel last night

And he's down to 5s with betfred

Obviously I hope you get McClaren or Pulis.

There are plenty of good option out there though with the likes of the untried Rene Meulensteen or Raymond Verheijen who were very successful coaches. A risky left field one like Gary Neville or Solksjaer. Zola is risky but he has done quite well aside from West Ham and had time to learn his trade. Poyet has done well but after the experience of PDC I'd imaine appointing another mentalist is not the way you'll go. Di Matteo is a but risky for me. If you go English you have the likes of Gary Johnson, Paul Tisdale, Chris Powell, Martin Allen, Karl Robinson all have good records but it is just not the done thing anymore.

The ideal guy but one I'd hope you wouldn't get, and one I think you'd struggle to persuade is Glenn Hoddle. Vastly underrated as a manager by most due to his crazy comments while manager of England. However he laid the foundations for all that Chelsea became, did a cracking job at Southampton and Swindon, and England were in decline from the moment he left. Had an average time of things at Spurs and Wolves. Overall though the guy hs a proven track record and will look to put things in place for the long term too. All his teams play football the right way too.

So yeah get Pulis in :D

But why would we care for your hopes? Wasted your time with the other two paragraphs cause I stopped reading there, as will most. <ok>

I'd much rather that we picked someone who might be brilliant than go for just a safe option. The choice for me would be between Solksjaer, Hoddle, and Muelensteen. However, I expect that after the Paulo fiasco we will end up with someone of the Pulis/McClarren variety.

Muelensteen with Neville as number two sounds good to me.

Alex McLeish has confirmed his interest in succeeding Paolo Di Canio as Sunderland manager.

The former Scotland boss is one of the bookmakers' favourites to take over at the Stadium of Light following the club’s decision to ditch Di Canio just five games into the new Premier League season.

McLeish, 54, has been out of work since a short-lived stint at Nottingham Forest last season and, asked if the Sunderland job would be of interest to him, he told Hawksbee and Jacobs: "Of course it would. It's a big club.

"I am out of a job at the moment and it is a club that would certainly fascinate me in terms of going in there and trying to inject some confidence into those players."

Former Brighton boss Gus Poyet is understood to be the leading contender for the role, while Roberto Di Matteo, Tony Pulis and Gianfranco Zola have also been linked.

Poyet now favourite at evens, rdm out to 8/1

1. Rene Meulensteen

For many of the reasons that the rest of the group have highlighted, I have quickly found myself warming to the notion of Sir Alex Ferguson’s former confidant being put in charge of our rabble.

Unless Sunderland wants even more upheaval, then it must be stressed that we’ll be looking for someone who can report to – and co-operate with – Director of Football Roberto De Fanti. Having a system in place that alleviates some of the pressures that come with being the man in the Premier League spotlight will surely benefit someone stepping into such a role for the first time.

Whilst he may not be good for sound bites or rallying war cries, that is the last thing we need at the moment. We just need to do it on the pitch, where, if you believe those who have worked with him, is where Meulensteen does the business.

Ricky Sbragia was a coach at Man Utd as was Carlos Queiros need I say more.

What about Phelan then?

Gus Poyet - according to talk sport just now!

I'd go for "El Loco" Marcelo Bielsa - was the best manager in La Liga according to Pep Guardiola.

I've voted for Zola but if I was in his position would I leave Watford and gamble on staying in the Prem--a hard decision to make.Word here is that Poyet has been approached,I spoke to a neighbour who is very well connected at Brighton and he said Poyet did a great job for us but I am glad to see the back of him because of his ego.If Zola does not jump ship I would go for Meulenstein from Manure.
