If you look at that list, everyone of them is a gamble. Initially RDM was my gut reaction choice, purely cos of his Italian background but if you look at what he's achieved, then i have my doubts. Yes he won the Champions League but not very convincingly and with an established team of all stars as well, he struggled in the EPL with WBA so i'm a bit unsure.

Zola didn't do much for WHU.

Poyet, unproven although i think he will become a good manager one day, could be the right guy but a gamble all the same.

Pulis????? i'd burn my season card mate. Did OK at Stoke but always tipped for relegation until his later years when they sort of did OK and were finishing mid table (ish) couldn't bring myself to watch his brand of football though. Would rather dig the garden.

Lennon, nah, big fish in a small pond so still unproven for me.

Butcher & McClaren, just don't go there.

The likes of Neville, Solksjar, et al, while one day they may become good managers, they're still unproven and would be a massive gamble. I reckon Ellis will know he wants already and it's just down to negotiations, money etc, he would have had a contingency plan when he appointed PDC and i reckon whoever it is, will have some sort of Italian/European connection.
 
Di Matteo looks like he isn't sure by press accounts and we don't need a manager we have to convince to come IMO.

Zola has had a press release saying he is flattered to be linked.
He would be an interesting and continental approach. He has learned his trade and has Watford playing wonderful attacking football.

I'm not sure why so many are backing Gary Neville? He would be a total gamble and we just dont need that right now at all.

Zola moves to the top of my list now if RDM is stalling.
 
Only joking about klinsmann it just seems he can get altidore scoring. I really dont know who i want to be honest Zola has watford playing lovely attacking football so off that list he's my pick

Add to that the fact that he had 9 loan players and got them to gel at top speed last season
 
A weird shout is Hope Powell…recently was sacked from England women but kept the job for 15 years…

The present odds are based on betting and no other information as we've not compiled our shortlist yet. So there'll be no leaks to affect the betting market. It could be anybody. Which is boring as ****. :(

I'm very intrigued by Rene Meulensteen(who is my top choice) or Gary neville. I want a good tactician. Rene knows premiership football inside out and when listen to Neville he knows his stuff more than anybody on the box.

Poyet now favourite at evens, rdm out to 8/1

For many of the reasons that the rest of the group have highlighted, I have quickly found myself warming to the notion of Sir Alex Ferguson’s former confidant being put in charge of our rabble.

Unless Sunderland wants even more upheaval, then it must be stressed that we’ll be looking for someone who can report to – and co-operate with – Director of Football Roberto De Fanti. Having a system in place that alleviates some of the pressures that come with being the man in the Premier League spotlight will surely benefit someone stepping into such a role for the first time.

Whilst he may not be good for sound bites or rallying war cries, that is the last thing we need at the moment. We just need to do it on the pitch, where, if you believe those who have worked with him, is where Meulensteen does the business.

If RDM isn't sure we have to eliminate him immediately. Half arsed commitment is not what we need here. Poyet is still relatively inexperienced but has something about him tbh. He is a manager on the up and worked wonders at Brighton.

I like him but my only concern is a huge step upwards.
 
Now this is what I think will happen.

Decent track record in england, excellent track record overseas and working with foreign players and he's English. If Ellis reads McClaren's CV then I think he'll be our next coach because on paper he's a very good choice. But in reality <yikes>
