I think the problem with Slot is he didn't see the issues everyone else is seeing. All season he's insisted we've been unlucky, he was still banging that drum after the Man City game. He talks about teams or performing their goal expectancy but that can't just be firm to luck when it's every game.

Nothing against the guy, he's just out of his depth. Much like many other players over the years, it's just not worked out. But, he's got his golden moment with Klopp's team last season, he'll never equal or better it imo

been saying it for half the season. After a few games when said we weren’t conceding chances but conceding goals, all fine. It can happen unfortunately.

But when it happens all season and you still talk about it as if that’s some sort of poor luck, have to wonder if it’s actually due to the performances and is doesn’t cover the cracks like he thinks it does.

Everyone and his dog could see at the beginning of the season we're were just scraping by with the wins.Think this was the writing on the wall for how the season was going to go but we all gave Slot the benefit of the doubt. Can anybody see what style of play were trying to achieve because I'm clueless, unless of course it's about boring the opposition into submission and even that hasn't worked out too well.

I can see the style of play but it's not one that I'm particularly thrilled with.

Slow build up playing our way of out of defence, low risk passes trying to set up the perfect chance in the final third.

But we've reached a point now where style of play is just a surface issue.

The squad fitness and confidence/motivation in dealing with set backs i.e.going behind are far more worrying. The team can't play more than about 35 minutes these days if that. And I don't remember the last time we literally gave up on a match to the point where our captain even admitted it.

Could see it at the end of last season; we collapsed after the PSG game (which Slot claimed to be a blessing in disguise as it was upturn in our season <doh> )

Style of play reminds me of Brod; maintain possession at all costs.

Who remembers us winning the possession game? <laugh>

That style only works if you have someone to unlock the opposition defence. Like a Suarez, Trent or in form Salah

It doesn't work all the time then.

It only works consistently if you are the vastly superior team in the league. When the opposition is terrified to come out and attack.

Then you can keep the ball and constantly keep the pressure on the opposition until they finally break.

If you're not that great, then the possession becomes meaningless and passive. Holding it for holding its sake.

Once the opposition are no longer scared of getting a hiding as we've seen to a small degree with city and to a much larger degree with us. The are happy for you to have the ball, knowing when you lose it, they'll break and score.

The possession game really only works when your team is absolutely tip top & have that psychological edge of the other team absolutely ****ting themselves that they are going to get done 5 nil.

Alonso is inbound is my guess, unless we fail to qualify for CL - which is a realistic possibility.

On Slot….he’s delivered no improvement. Nothing. We’ve been blowing up after 20m all season, our fitness and therefor coaching has been woeful. The ‘style’ of play has been unbalanced and boring and lacked penetration and for most of the season our set piece defending has been at schoolboy level - most of all, the mantra that Klopp instilled in the whole club of ‘doing anything at 100%’ has completely vanished…..I do not like the way Edward’s and Hughes have gone about things since JK left but none of the above is on them. In my opinion, they should all go. Starting with Slot and the entire coaching team.

Even under Klopp we had trouble breaking down a resolute defence and were susceptible to the long ball over the top.
We managed to find a way, often with fast breakaways ourselves, but we haven't had the players this season to do that.
Combinations like MFS don't come along that often.
I haven't watched Alonso's teams enough to know if he could do any better than Slot.
It just isn't working atm, and a change is necessary, but tbh, I don't know who I would like to see take over.

I'd take Luis Enrique ahead of Alonso but doubt that's an option

* The PSG manager, not our former LB

personally think those above Slot share the blame due to the dreadful summer transfer window and then doing nothing in Jan .
We have also had a high number of long term injuries

Chelsea interested in Alonso it seems. FSG need to be decisive, if they keep Slot, I can’t see him lasting beyond October. There are at least two or three good replacements now, they are unlikely to stay available for long

All present indications are that FSG will stick with Slot for next season. This is so disappointing, I can’t see him turning this around. I would love to be proved wrong

Like you, I really don't see it changing. But if that's what we go into next season with, I'll give him the benefit of doubt, support him and see what happens.

I really hope it changes. I think he’s been found out and is completely one dimensional. If FSG keep him, it would be a huge error imo.

If he did stay, I would support the team (which includes him) but he himself would have to win me over quickly by proving he can play in a style that doesn’t make me fall asleep.

100% agree

Momentum is everything, get off to 3 wins on the bounce and it'll set the tone. Draw, win, draw and things will be pretty miserable pretty quickly.

I genuinely don't know anyone who wants to go in to next season with Slot, so we're not reading the room at all.

EDIT: Convincing wins, not stealing everything last minute like this season!
