<peacedove> Most supporters now believe that Arne Slot time is running out .Personally, I cannot see him as our manager next season, except the unthinkable happens (which is winning the champions league}. There are speculations of Xabi Alonso and Jurgen Klopp being courted to replace Slot.
Who do you think should be our manager in 2026/27?

I was one of the few offering caution going into the season. I didn't expect to win OR to hit the ground running with the wholesale squad changes.

That said, I expected the team to be better by now. Ive watched very little football this season unfortunately (maybe that's why it's not been a great season)... I think FSG were right to give Slot a whole season to prove himself. He still has a month or so.

Should something change and we win every remaining game convincingly there may be a case to let him keep going. As things are though... I don't expect Slot to earn another season. Slot will always be a legend for that one title, but probably time to move on.

Klopp would always be a solid choice, but I think his tactics are too well known by other premier League managers now and that fills his edge a little.

Alonso is no guaranteed success, but whereas I feel Klopp will always be solid, Alonso is probably more likely going to provide another league title.

But everyone is missing the real guaranteed genius. Derek Aasamoah. <ok>

I was on the bandwagon of expecting the team to improve as the season went on due to the turnover of players eventually settling and that any tactical issues would eventually be resolved.

But it's becoming clearer that squad fitness is becoming a massive issue under Slot and it pretty much trumps every other issue with the team.

Any manager that addresses this can make this squad genuinely competitive.

Sick of the excuses, a game lasts 90 minutes plus, playing well for 35 minutes and capitulating is no good. The players clearly have lost faith in Slot, so have the fans. FSG need to get on with it

Don't think Szob helped the situation with the fans with his gestures at end of game.
Slot has lost the players and the fans, time for him to **** off NOW!

I've said since the start of the season something looks off between the players and slott.

Unless there's major revelations after he's gone, I doubt we'll know what's gone on. But I reckon he pissed 1 to many of the old heads off. Whether it be treatment of players, handling of transfers or just general demeanor. Something went wrong that's never recovered.

You don't get

Vvd, ibou, McAllister, Salah and gakpo all turning to ****e in the close season without something going on behind the scenes.

It's never really recovered. Regardless of tactics, if the players don't want to play for the manager it's going to be a slog.

Leaves us with 2 options a massive clear out, bring new in to play for slot or we get rid of slot.

Now considering how many have left and are leaving, plus a couple aging out maybe a clear out wouldn't be a bad idea anyway.

I really don't want to fall in the trap of utd, where the players are only arsed when the manager comes in, then soon fall into a malaise until he finally gets the sack

I think Slot trying to change the tactics haven't worked with the squad.
Start of the season I think most of the team were willing to try it and make it work, hence why we won a number of game at the death. They were still wanting to fight and try to make the system work.

However it seems over the season, the players are struggling to see the changes working, instead of games becoming easier they were getting harder for them. So it feels like now they just can't get on board with his ideas and as soon as something goes wrong they just can't be arsed as they aren't buying into Slot's tactics.

Also, something we can't blame Slot for, selling popular players like Diaz and Nunez probably hasn't gone down well with the squad.

I'd also blame the media, the way they badgered the hierarchy into giving Salah and VvD new big contracts was frankly a little unethical. Clearly the original idea from the club was right, I believe they wanted one year extensions with a small increase, instead they were beaten into giving both what they wanted because the media wouldn't let up.

if gakpo doesn’t want to play for Slot then he might as well retire. Been awful and played pretty much every game when should have been dropped a long time ago.

I think Zobo's actions have been misinterpreted. I think he was just trying to keep the bond going and encourage support, nothing wrong with that. He's clearly not happy with the team and the efforts being shown, maybe he was just trying to tell the fans he understands and shares the frustration.

One thing for certain, Zobo isn't the enemy and absolutely isn't the guy we should be focusing on. Without him, we'd be a lot worse off right now.

I think the problem with Slot is he didn't see the issues everyone else is seeing. All season he's insisted we've been unlucky, he was still banging that drum after the Man City game. He talks about teams or performing their goal expectancy but that can't just be firm to luck when it's every game.

Nothing against the guy, he's just out of his depth. Much like many other players over the years, it's just not worked out. But, he's got his golden moment with Klopp's team last season, he'll never equal or better it imo
