You do all realise that every every England supporter at every tournament has always considered himself capable of selecting a better team than the incumbent manager? And that this is one of the things that makes the job impossible? Even Alf Ramsey had to put up with armchair warriors who felt sure they could do a better job than him, but at least they didn't have the internet on which to announce their sadly overlooked genius.

The England manager's job can then be a force for good in this world.

Good article. The system would be complemented by other clubs doing what Southampton do and bringing young academy players through into the first team. That way, they experience top-flight club football, but learn the international game with their own age-group until they are the right age to emerge as a unit in the senior squad.

Strange as it may seem to you, there are loads of English fans out there that do care who manages their National Team, I thought that Roy was showing some promise until he reverted to the old school team selection, somehow I am thinking it was not his first choice, other influences involved here.
