Putin is so deeply into his lies about denazification that he seems sure to parade them as Nazis, to keep his narrative going. However, there was a Russian general on the Kremlin-run radio station who was giving a realistic assessment of the situation, saying that things were only going to get worse for the Russian army as western military aid increases, and Ukrainian morale remains high because they are fighting for their Motherland. Provided he hasn't been shipped off to a penal colony this may be a sign of movement in the Kremlin.

The next time Boris Johnson wants to slur Keir Starmer's name by saying he failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile, he should explain why his Government is protecting a sex abuser who works for MI5. To the point of getting a court order to prevent the BBC identifying the man.

The BBC should pass what it knows to an MP, so this character can be named using Parliamentary Privilege.

It is a terrible shame that this BBC News article represents the tip of a very ugly iceberg...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-61508922

There will be a small but significant number of influential people in Russia, the USA and the UK (among other nations as well) who will be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of the Ukraine War dragging on and on for years.
Because it will give them the perfect opportunity to field test all their latest weapons and weapons systems.

Never mind the civilians who have been slaughtered, or forced to flee into exile.
Big corporations with government contracts will get to test their missiles and lasers and drones and artillery.
More profits, more prestige, more jobs.

"It's just a rumour that was spread around town..."

Big shout out to Nadine Dorries yesterday after appearing in front of a commitee and saying that after a government survey of over 56,000 people, 96% of them said they were in favour of the selling off of channel 4. It was actually 96% of them saying they were not in favour, but don't let the facts get in the way of trying to close down an independent company that isn't completely under the thumb of the government.

Funny how she doesn't get the sort of ridicule Diane Abbott got for getting her sums wrong. I wonder why that could be?<whistle>

The United Nations may as well disband. What is the point in it?

    I know it's very frustrating.
But I'd rather have the UN intact with Russia making life awkward, than a UN without Russia in it (or no UN at all).
Even China can be a moderating influence (over North Korea for example) and again on balance I'd rather they are in than out.
In the 1930s Japan was condemned by the League of Nations for its invasion of Manchuria.
The Japanese delegation just stood up and walked out.

The stakes after all are even higher today. As high as global nuclear annihilation.
Ultimately, it may be that Putin is discouraged from pressing the button at least partly because of pressure applied from all the other major powers. Better that those powers have a well established forum to talk and plan together, and keep talking to Russia.
Jaw jaw is better than war war.

    PS:

I believe Donald Trump would completely agree with your post @The Penguin :emoticon-0104-surpr
That alone may be reason enough to reconsider...

A stopped clock is right twice a day.
Seriously, the world is watching Russia destroying Ukraine, committing arguably genocide, and plunging parts of the world into famine. If the UN is powerless to stop it, are they much more than a talking shop?

This whole business is now way beyond a bad joke.

    These were parties.
Boris claiming they were not does not change reality.
They were not work meetings or gatherings, or any other technical terminology to dodge the law. They were parties.
I expect a whole load more pictures will come out soon, and every time Boris denies he knew they were parties, he will look more a fool.
A culture of boozing, ignoring rules and thinking themselves above the rest of us has been proved.
And it will carry on, despite the whitewash about change.
All through the pandemic these privileged twits were laughing at people who followed the rules.

    And he lied to Parliament.
If he wriggles off that hook, then they might as well scrap the ban on deceiving the Commons.
There will never be a more blatant example.

THAT photo is on the front page of every newspaper including The Star except the Daily Mail, which devotes its entire front page to the possibility of a rail strike. Yesterday its front page was devoted to a lie, surely dictated by Boris, that Sue Gray had called the meeting with with Boris. It also accused Ms Gray of "playing party politics", before a senior civil servant let the cat ahrt of the bag by stating that Boris himself had called the meeting to put pressure on Ms Gray. This is from the country's biggest selling newspaper.

It's a cunning plot. Bois wants a payoff from the PM gig so that he can sign a contract to manage the Addicks next season - our reputation for sex in the centre circle throws up another dividend <laugh>

We're seeing the beginning of the end of the Boris era. He'll cling on as long as he can but his party knows he's a liability now. He's served his purpose, got Brexit done, now he can feck orft.

These party revelations are getting more lurid every day.
Now we've got people sitting on each other's laps, crowded into rooms with empty bottles overflowing bins.

At this rate by the weekend those orgy scenes from Caligula will be tame by comparison <laugh>

Total disregard for any lockdown rules.
Partying with impunity until all hours. Drunkenness, ridicule of those who dared to suggest it was wrong.
Abuse of cleaners and security staff.
Even police officers were afraid of them.

All the traits of a ruling class who have believed all their privileged lives that they are better than everyone else.
And that laws and rules are only for the millions of common people they consider beneath them.
They believe they can behave any way they wish, and should never have to answer for their excesses.

The British People have been taken for fools by Boris and the No.10 entourage right through the Pandemic, from day one.
Well, they won't be fooling this pleb again.
After all as the saying goes - Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Next time there's a Pandemic, the Government can stick its lockdown rules up its arse.
I'll do what I think is right for me and mine.

And of course (surprise surprise) following weeks of the Chancellor saying it's too soon to offer any more help to people struggling with the soaring cost of living, the Government is now going to announce a spanking new £10 billion package of help - 24 hours after Sue Gray's report comes out.

Cue lots of paper waving and cheers for the Prime Minister from the Tory back benches.

I expect they'll claim the sudden £10 billion is now available because of that 'news' two days ago about the energy cap going up another 42% in October.
Yet that information was revealed months ago.
