I do love a rallying speech to really unite the fans in belief and hope.

It's like the Gettysburg Address if Abraham Lincoln had been less enthusiastic, ie "Four Score and twenty years ago.... Meh, actually we're **** aren't we? Let's just give now"

I'd have given us half a shout to get a point without him.

    Hopefully he'll pull up early

Meh time to play dirty then.

Teams always target Shelvey in the hope he does berserk and gets himself sent off. Let's just get Grealish knackered early and get the points.

Wouldn't normally recommend this course of action, but the Villa fans ****ishness on the last day of 08/09 is still a thing.

Maybe that's why Hendrick is in the team. We play better with 10 men than with him on the pitch, so if he gets himself sent off but manages to take Grealish with him....

Hayden needs to man mark Grealish, just follow him around the pitch. Villa don't have a lot of strong players without him, certainly the likes of Watkins improve with Grealish so we need to just stick to him and I think Hayden could do that job.

Midfield then needs to be mobile - I'd put Willock back there with Shelvey in CM, was abysmal with Hendrick.

We need a different option up front, I'd probably look at Murphy as the "false 9" - assuming they stick with that formation - and go with Joelinton left, Fraser right. Or actually look to Joelinton as this false 9 instead?? Maybe that'll make him a footballer.....

Back four - if fit - picks itself, Manq, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett.

    Hayden is tripe.

He gets a free pass imo because he's the only cm that can tackle... He's not good enough to handle grealish... Someone needs to absolutely clatter him early on

Tbh there's still a good chance he will be on the bench... Not all managers are as short sighted as ours.

He'd Ummm..... Like..... The best we've got.

No one else can put their foot in, as soon as Shelvey gets the ball he plays glorious 60 yard passes straight to the other team, Hendrick and Fraser would get out muscled by an ant and Songstaff and Mongstaff have long since drifted into the periphery.

Hayden needs to be on Grealish all game.

    Doesn't have to be Hayden.
Remember when Aaron Hughes marked Del Piero out of the game.

You just need someone to stick to him no matter what.

Hayden needs to be free to tackle the other ten players

He'd miss Grealish and end up taking out one of our few remaining decent players.

...it's a sad state of affairs that I can't really name a player I'd be sad to miss like I am Miggy/Wilson/ASM.

    Willock maybe?

There's more chat about tactics on this thread than will happen in the Newcastle training ground this week.

We'll just turn up with a different XI players in the exact same formation and hope for the best. Was like Brucey calling it "obscene" that people were calling out his days off. Why do the media then conveniently forget to ask him why we looked less fit than West Brom, who'd played three days prior to our visit?

Interestingly found there's quite a few people working at the club. No idea how many are furloughed. https://trainingground.guru/staff-profiles/newcastle-united-staff-profiles
