Impressed by Campbell, from what little I've seen of the lad he'll definitely give us something a bit different in our strikeforce if he manages to make the step up successfully.

Thanks for the thread KyleG, was out mst of yesterday so missed this one. <ok>

Sounds like a cracking match. Not a good day for defenders though.

Seen a lot of talk about Campbell, but as I'm not in the area, I've not seen him play. Now I'm not into all the "He's the new <insert name of amazing well known player>" tripe, as each player is different - and often the hype starts too soon, with so much pressure piled on the new lad that they fade away. BUT, just so I can understand what he's like, who would you compare him to?

On a side note, I see Curtis Good played (and scored) too. For those who saw it, how did he play?

A little something about the game from NUFC.com

    Campbell conquers Cockerels.

Newcastle Res 6 Spurs Res 4

In front of a watching Alan Pardew, United began life in the new Premier U21 Reserve League in eye-catching style, with in-form Adam Campbell leading the way.

A week after impressing during a brief taste of senior friendly action, the 17 year-old forward grabbed a 33 minute hat trick against a stunned Spurs side, who boasted Les Ferdinand amongst their touchline team.

Campbell opened the scoring with a third minute header from a Marcus Maddison cross and within another three minutes Curtis Good had fired home to double the lead.

Souleymane Coulibaly then struck the woodwork as the visitors looked to get back into the match and they did so on 14 minutes when Ryan Mason converted via a post.

It was 3-1 just two minutes later, as Haris Vuckic played into Adam Campbell, who bore down on goal before beating the rather static 'keeper Jonathan Mills.

Adam then returned the favour for Vuckic to net on 20 minutes and make it 4-1, before the Slovenian's pass saw Campbell race into the area and complete his hat trick nine minutes before the interval for a 5-1 advantage.

With Pardew taking his leave after a half time word with the home players - and doubtless some thinking to do about who gets the nod for Athens - United restarted with Conor Newton and Brad Inman replacing Maddison and Michael Richardson.

Inman then became the second Aussie to get on the scoresheet when he finished off an intricate passing move just after the hour to make it 6-1.

Slackening off somewhat, Newcastle allowed Spurs back into the game and they managed to reduce the arrears down to 6-4 in the next seven minutes, through Yago Falque (2) and Cristian Ceballos.

However the visitors never looked like restoring parity and substitute 'keeper Lawrence Vigoreux made a couple of stops in the closing stages to prevent the Magpies from racking up an even more emphatic final scoreline.

Team: Alnwick, Tavernier, Moyo, Good, Satka, Abeid, Bigirimana, Maddison (Inman 46), Campbell, Vuckic (Nicholson 68), Richardson (Newton 46),
    Subs n/u: Mitchell, Hooper
