My conclusion is that i'm right about 3 CBs as it stunts our ability to attack and control a match too much, I may have been a bit hasty about Mario's future here though... Valery was a big miss today IMO.
I thought Newcastle probably deserved to go in first half ahead, but were fortunate to draw the second half. A whatever game. Nice to see ‘good’ Mario though. Was watching with a Liverpool fan - his main comment, “your number five looks awful”. Shame. Was hoping they’d buy him!
The fact we had no game plan in the first half would back that up, we at least had options and any luck and we would have pulled it back.
1st half killed us, better 2nd half but still not great. Bound to get these types of games with how small the squad is and who we have as back up. Please never play Stephens at cb again, guy has no positional sense. Give him a try at dm, if that doesn't work sell him to Leeds for 7m... Not really a damaging loss, long as Liverpool don't suddenly become ****...
Hummm. Think Ralph got tactics wrong, corrected at HT but maybe could have done earlier? Our back line is severely lacking - our 5, especially the 3 CB’s are not good enough. Ok might have been better with Vest but we’re effectively playing a relegation threatened team or at least bottom half & we couldn’t contain - yes I know, over run in middle but .... Going forward we’ve definitely improved but Ralpie has a lot of work to do, that’s for sure. Ps. No back up for Valery seems a bit naive also. I know Cedric wants to leave / needs to go but I’m sure he would have been a better option today? Waiting to get shot down
Just as word for Angus and you can see why we invested so much in him, he is going to be top class. What unbelievable reaction for that deflected save from a volley.
We should try and get all our best players on the pitch, no way can playing 3 CBs achieve that at this present time.
