Thought that until Shelvey shot us in the foot that we had battled well. They were dominating but as someone has already said they weren't creating anything. They may have still gone on to win but we were in the game fighting. Surprised people have identified Shelvey being sent off as the turning point. It wasn't for me. Turning point was when Spuds took off "Tragic Sissoko" they then went on to score two something which still seemed beyond them even after Shelvey was sent off until then.
Ye I said same to R kid but realistically if we had 11 players, and was still committing numbers to attack, I don't think it would have been the.turning point. Which makes shelves red the pivotal moment
Didn't see the foul by kane on our player some fans were saying it should of been red Unfortunately Marriner has form with us sending Mitro off against arsenal MaĆriners performance today left a lot to be desired How can you play advantage when you don't have the ball Ali taking himself off the pitch and coming back on without permission is a mandatory yellow card over ruling his lino when the lino was in a better position I said at the beginning of the thread I will give my opinion after the game and every one starts with a clean sheet I thought his performance was very average with strange decisions throughout the game 5/10
Ref missed a few fouls early on by Spurs but overall he had a good game. Kane's tackle rightly punished with a yellow. Shelvey rightly punished with a red. Move on.
Piss poor performance from both sides. We seemed content to just pass the ball backwards and sideways for extended periods, and you seemed content to let us do it. I agree that the real turning point was Sissoko going off for Son. Until then we didn't have a man advantage as he is frankly so utterly ****e we are basically down to 10 men whenever he is on the pitch. In a similar vein, I'm quite surprised at how much the Toon were booing him. If anything, I'd half expect you to have erected a statue of Daniel Levy outside St James'.
He's being booed mostly for the terrible, pea-hearted, talentless and lazy displays he subjected us all to for 95% of the time he was here. Not for leaving.
Of course, fair enough. Outdone by a very good team, they may well be the best this season. And this kind of result will need to be sucked up a number of times. More important are the next few but if we add a bit more quality to the obvious fight we'll be alright. 0-2 with 10 men we live to fight on, could have been infinitely worse.
1. Shelvey red mist is unacceptable, infuriating and sadly unsurprising. 2. Even not taking into account his regular lapses in discipline I remain concerned that he lacks the quality to be really effective in the Premier League. Though not as critical as some of the other areas we needed/still need to strengthen this summer, I had hoped that we would buy serious competition for Shelvey. 3. Lejeune injury had better not be serious - he looks the real deal, but early injuries can really hamper new signings adaptation and confidence. 4. Ashley refusal to fund upfront spending, even when taking into account guaranteed future income from this seasons TV deal may be the most foolish move of all.
Ashley seems more than happy to simply preserve your PL status for the foreseeable future and enjoy said TV money. That requires finishing anywhere as low as 17th as, unlike La Liga, TV money is distributed almost equally. Benitez understandably has higher hopes and ambitions for his side, having won multiple major trophies in his career and coming close to winning the PL with Pool. Hence the now seemingly constant tension.
Hmm. Since joining us he appears to have upped his percentages to 100%. Oh well, progress is a good thing they say.
In his defence on his day he is one of the best but as we've seen those days are few and far between. I hope he learns from this and becomes a decent premier league cm.
