This is what football is about, not transfers or how much a player is earning or FSG out ..... These are the kinds of games you live for. When everything seems to be against you and you keep going and win in such an emphatic way. This game is up there with the Alisson winning header. It's memory making stuff. All the rest is just noise.

noise that costs fans huge money.

the away fans get heavily "subsidised" to go to games but the home fans then get massively charged and priced out

    that's the crime of football

    That's the thing though.

How much it cost you to get there. How much your ticket was. How much they charged you for your pie and pint. If you're at home - how much the tv companies are charging you to watch. It all pales into insignificance when you're totally immersed in the action and the outcome.

Unless, of course, your memories of the day are how much it all cost.

FA has been advised to give VVD four match ban for swearing at the referee.

That would be harsh. I read that they can add another red card for dissent which is mind boggling. How can you get 2 reds in one game. I think Virgil did himself no favours by swearing and set a poor example of how to act in the situation, especially when, as captain, he should be leading by example. I think him not leaving the field immediately was him waiting for the VAR decision. I also thought he looked like he was telling the ref. to go and look at the screen maybe thinking if he did, he would change his mind. Once it was clear he wasn't going to, Virgil should have left the field with a bit more composure. Has to be said though how many of the Newcastle players swore at the ref. repeatedly, held imaginary cards all of which went unpunished.

It was the worst refereeing display I've seen in a long time and there's a lot of competition for the spot.

The leaving field thing is understandable. It was being checked by var so why would you walk off? Same as in cricket, don’t get players walk off then have to run back on.

The swearing, who knows. I know there’s tonne of stuff about dissent and respect to the ref, buts they’ve been given out yellows during the games for dissent so why would you then get a 3 match ban added for it? Doesn’t seem consistent to me.

Swearing and abuse can be a red, but if you’re going to do it, it’s needs to be consistent. Can’t give one player a red for swearing when we all know and can see it happening during the game.

First game against Chelsea, Mac and Jackson I think we’re both yellow carded for asking for a yellow. However seems to have fallen off the radar now as Bruno and the whole Newcastle bench were asking for a yellow for TAA so should have all been booked for it.

Exactly. There's no consistency and that's the problem. Virgil should have just taken his medicine and walked off with composure. It could have been sorted like Macca's was. It's easy for us to say when we're not the ones in the heat of a game though.

It would be a real step forward if they had the disciplinary panel review a referees whole match performance when deciding on punishment and have any referees do a compulsory course on how and when cards should be issued. I don't watch other games so it can look to me like the refs have it in for us, then I read what's happened in other games such as the Forest game where they are considering writing to PGMOL to seek clarification. It shouldn't be necessary. The referees are supposed to be professional and unbiased but the evidence against is mounting week by week.

Add that to his 19 fouls.

Like I say, they bring all these new initiatives and are super strict for couple weeks then realise that it’s maybe a bit much so back off.

Was like 2 years ago when they were going to clamp down on holding in the box and were **** tonne of pens, then 3 weeks later was back to usual cos they realised were too many pens being given.

    Same with handballs.

Foulinton. I think 19 was just the number given against him and doesn't include the 648 the ref just ignored.

I think the referee was in favour of Newcastle winning the game, he was disappointed that Liverpool won.
