Emu the City performance and non tactics was a joke mate but you cant accept that. We were shocking and did nothing until it was too late. But guess what we went at them on 70 minutes and made a good fist of it, but wonder what would have happened if we hadn’t have wasted the first 70 minutes. don’t give me the what would we have done with Haaland bollox, what would we have done if he had scored in the first minute or the 12th minute or if Grealish or Gundogan had scored their chances in the first half hour? Would you have still praised his tactics? Brentford beat them, Everton took a point off them today, we decided to surrender the game and do something we had never done before or Marsch had never done before and it was shyte. Today was a Marsch game and a way of playing and suits this squad doing what we did for 70 minutes against City isnt. But we all have opinions mTe
Agreed that City should have been a couple up at HT but what mystifies me Doc is that Marsche played a system that doesn't really contain in the way that two banks of four has been proven to over many years. We played a flat back four and then a three of Greenwood (right) Roca (centre) Forshaw (left) which left holes all over the place for City to play through. Honestly Haaland could have had a 5 or 6 and the number of times he was on the shoulder of Koch and Cooper and they didn't play him in was unbelievable. Personally I've no problem setting up with a defensive mindset but what I definitely don't want is spaces inbetween where De Bruyne and Gundogan can have a field day. The totally daft thing is though we very nearly got to HT at 0-0 and then who knows what would have happened.
First decent comment today doc… good to see you getting with the programme. But seriously I said I’d have preferred us to stick with marsch’s normal style against city and had a go… but he went to try a more containing set up which is what a lot of people have called for. It didn’t work because their individuals are better than ours… or as Jammy says maybe it’s not a great defensive set up. I think he was hoping that we could still be an attacking force with the system but it didn’t turn out that way. Re the whole Marsch thing. I’m not convinced by him or by his system, I just think the shoot the manager mentality when something doesn’t work is, sometimes wide of the mark. Given it’s been open season from day 1 on him since golden bollox bielsa moved on, I find myself defending him. It doesn’t mean I think he’s the second coming, that I love his football, that I don’t think he should rein in the rambling press conferences. It means I believe in giving someone a fair crack, and try to recognise the circumstances they’re working under. But my opinion is just that, an opinion, and I try and support it with some supporting evidence when I can. My post that you took offence to was expressing irony that people who call for us to tighten up at the back are then complaining about something else when we keep a clean sheet… and it wasn’t directed at anyone in particular.
Just don't tell the others as some think it's a place to come and moan and groan about everything and everybody
Against City and Newcastle, Rodrigo managed to touch the ball just 47 times in total over the two games. Not his fault, we’re just not getting the ball to him enough
Not seen this being mentioned much but I think the jury should still be out with Aaronson as he’s only had 1 goal and 2 assists in 16 appearances and Dan James got 4 goals and 4 assists in 32 games last season and got massively slated for it. I think he needs to do better, toughen up and stop diving as it’s starting to get embarrassing.
I read a lot about this seasons signings being a success but for me, Kristensen is not as good as Ayling, Aaronson hasn’t lived up to expectation, Roca is bang average and Sinisterra is proving to be as reliable as Firpo and Bamford with his injuries For me, I’d take a closer look at Drameh and with Aylings age being against him Kristensen would hopefully still have a future. He is reliable but you never pick him out as having had an excellent game. Roca and Aaronson are also just reliable squad players, both decent players but we won’t have to worry about other teams sniffing around them. Sadly we haven’t got better players than either and if Greenwood fills in for Roca I don’t worry about it, he’s equally as reliable
To be honest, we didn't even realise he was on the pitch in the first half although we were so high up in the stand that may have been the reason why.
Not sure I agree with that. A quality striker goes looking for the ball, if it's not coming to him regularly.
So their fans weren't waiting to goad our fans on the way out as normal then????? What an Ars...le these were the welcoming committee waiting for us.
