My favourite thing about Newcastle's summer business is that they've signed someone with four birthdays.
I'm sure when they got on the plane, the stewardess was wearing trousers and they asked the steward "She's a Lady?". The steward replied "Yes, her name is delilah".
He is like it a lot tbh. I have seen him play a fair bit and he has always been a dirty bastard. He is also a bit of a nob attitude wise. But he can score. If McClaren can get him to grow up and calm down he will be a good player for you.
I don't mind him being a dirty player as long as he has ability and scores goals. Shearer was a dirty bastard too (as you probably know) though he didn't get pulled up on it as much as others cos of being the England captain. Most forwards take more than they get so its not a bad quality to have. From reports he clearly has a lot of growing up to do still, but McClaren is meant to be one of the better coaches at dealing with that - so fingers crossed.
As per usual my match predictions were wrong; predicted one nil to us with either Pelle or Mane the scorer. Did state recently however that I thought Long would have a great season for us; have such a positive feeling about him; really think he is getting to grips with EPL. Was not excited by his signing but 'getting on the bus' with him. Watch out; for once l might be right.
Hey guys. Thought I'd pop on to say that todays match was thoroughly enjoyable and a draw was definitely the right/fair result. Spent three great years in Southampton so always look out for you. You'll definitely be challenging the top 6 this year (along with Swansea imo)
I worry that this might be how a lot of Saints fans end up feeling this season. I think we will finish comfortably in the table and try our best in the cups but it may seem like a slight let down after last season as people will expect improvement like we have achieved every year in the last five.
Top twelve is realistic. Maybe we could get 8th. Let's not kid ourselves. We have yet to replace Morgan and Toby. Other new starters are good but until we replace like for like for those 2, we are not going to improve on last year.
Easily top 10. 7th or 8th is likely however you should aim for top 6 in my opinion. You have a cracking squad and a very good manager.
We have a lot of positives going for us, so very proud to be a Saints fan (50years) but we lost our best player (Morgan) and potentially our best defender since Mark Wright (Fonte the same caliber) so we have slots in the squad to fill. Attack-wise, we are better than last season, but defenses win places in Europe; attacks wins games - the two do no cancel the other.
All depends how this transfer windows ends, I feel. 2-2 was probably a fair result, over the 90 minutes. However, I'm not interested in fair.
Just watched first half on Sky...we made more mistakes/last ditch clearances than you usually see in 5 matches. Let's get this out of our system and be back to normal for Everton. Cedric is going to end up getting a few red cards at this rate....though he may get better as the team all settle down. I would be pleased if we have a similar season to last year and have decent run in the cups....can't expect every season to be on an upward curve....especially when we have done so well recently. There are only 6 places higher than last season and I think we can probably agree that the top 3/4 may be too high for us at the moment.
Don't get me wrong, I think we have a decent squad, however last season our solid defence was a key ingredient and with the loss of Forster, Clyne, Schneiderlin and Alderwiereld then it will be tough with the additional strain of European football. I am not worried but I do think our league position may be lower than last year, although I don't think we will be worrying about relegation.
Erwin in a couple of papers tomorrow 'raging' to them that if Mitrovic made full contact with Matt Targett he would be in hospital tonight.
Must be fascinating listening to Jay and Shane chatting...no chance for lip readers. Shane was right that he had to take his chance...he's going to be super sub this season.
It was a truly nasty and unwarranted tackle. I was getting annoyed with the Sky commentator making excuses....he was apparently just eager to get his first touch. Someone should tell him that you are supposed to kick the ball.
