  1. Nah mate, there's isn't really a risk about bringing a new striker on apart from he might not score any goals, but that's what i mean about "strong winning position". If we're 3-1 up with 30 mins to go then why not bring on Airey?

Shola has hardly any effect on the game as it is, and our team, Loverman especially, suffers.

I feel sorry for Lovenkrands. He plays well with a good partner, and that's why i favour Best and Lovern over Shola. Shola ****s up alot of chances, a classic example was the Blackpool game. In the first 5 mins Lovern made a great run in the box and all Shola had to do was play a 5 yard square pass and he ****ed it up. Lovern scored a cracker of a goal 10 mins later, but if Shola could have only made a simple through ball, we could have had the game dead and burried in the first 15 mins.

Anyway, i'm going off subject :)

Airey to play the last 30 mins along with Ranger if we're in a strong position :p

West Brom id like Half time

    Tav - Simmo
    Airey - Loven
    Ferguson -Nolan

midfield would then be Gutierrez, Barton, Smith/Tiote, Fergie

  3. Why not play this to start -

    ------Lover-------------------Shola---------

    ------------------Nolan-----------------------

    Fergie------------Barton---------------Jonas

    Enrique------Colo------Taylor---------Simmo

    ----------------Krul--------------------

Fergie has basically played two full games and coped well with physical players from Stoke and Everton.

At half time, i'd bring on Ranger and then Airey for the last 20-30 mins.

    I don't know about Tavernier.

I think we should wait till our US tour pre season to play our youngsters and fringe players in the defensive area mate.

It only takes a few minutes and a few mistakes to give away a strong winning position

Quick run down on the game from NUFC.com

Newcastle Res 4 Blyth Spartans 0

The Reserves ended their season by lifting the Northumberland Senior Cup on Wednesday evening at St. James' Park, when they comfortably beat Blyth Spartans to resume custody of the trophy after a one year break.

Michael Richardson gave United the lead in the 17th minute when Ryan Donaldson's cross from the left deflected off a Blyth player and fell nicely for Richardson to knock into the Leazes net from six yards.

James Tavernier unleashed a 25-yarder just after the half hour that whistled past Spartans 'keeper, Dan Lowson to double the host's advantage and five minutes later Phil Airey hit a low angled shot after more good work from Donaldson to make it 3-0.

And it was Airey who got his second and United's fourth in the 78th minute when a loose ball was picked up by substitute Joan Edmundsson who fed Airey on the right of the area and he finished with a fierce effort into the roof of the net.

Captain, Paddy McLaughlin, lifted the cup in front of a healthy crowd of 2,307 (although some weren't present at the end having been ejected...).

Some pretty useful youngsters on display and they wouldn't let the team down if they were thrown in at the deep end. All of them were worthy of praise and I've seen far less entertaining games from the 1st XI. The youngster wearing #4 is a Joey Barton in the making.

No idea what the crowd trouble was about and I was too interested in the game to take any notice.

****ING ROBBIE DALE!!! (our number 11)

Easily one of our biggest threats and yet again didn't have a clue where he was supposed to play, couldn't be bothered getting into the box and decided he was a defender for half the match. Can't fault Brayson's workrate but Dale should be up there with him giving him the support he needs! Such a talented player undone by his laziness!

First half was a complete shambles, a continuation of our end of season form. The Toon lads relished the amount of space they were given on the ball and annoyingly, most of our players didn't seem to want the ball.

I don't mind the fact they were outclassed, it's more the fact they didn't seem to care (with a few exceptions). 4-0 was a fair result since only one side really wanted to win it.

    There's always next year... :(
