Yep totally agree with that and as you mentioned he was just trying run the clock down a bit with his back to the pitch. It was a good hard fought win yesterday and one of those matches that will count for a lot come the end of the season.
Agreed! I think it is games like this one, that will define our season, rather than how we fare against Chelsea, Manure and City. I know some of us have a fixation with beating Chelsea.... People forget Newcastle have already beaten Chelsea and Manure this term, to go there and beat them is no mean achievement, it is more rewarding than the game V Chelsea, I am not even referring to 3points yesterday than the 1 v Chelsea. We could easily have lost in seasons past to this Newcastle side, so well done the troops!
We're still going to have to beat the likes of Manure-City-Chelsea if we want to win the league, if we go through the 2nd half of the season without managing to beat any of them, our title chances will be quite diminished. I want 6 points from City-United at home. We're not going to win the league if we drop 7 points from those 3 games.
We are top, halfway through the season without beating them, reality would show that we don't necessarily have to beat them. We might have to beat them, but then equally we might not. Not sure why anyone would think that this is a fact.
Yeah because the first half of the season will turn out like the second? Top teams will pick it up, City's bad away form isn't going to be as bad as in the first half of the season, and Chelsea will find their rhythm, even United are picking form now. I'll say it now, and you can take this to the bank, if we fail to beat the top teams, we're not going to win the league. Reality from previous seasons shows that if you want to win the league, you need to beat the big teams, that's reality, not toledo trumpton bubble reality of judging reality based on half season stats. It's simple, we need to be beating United-City at home if we want to stand a good chance of winning the league, dropping 7 points from City-Chelsea-United, and you can come back here in May, for me to tell you, I told you so.
I'm with you on both Man City and Chelsea picking up their away form in the second half of the season, their squads are far too good not to achieve this. As for beating them, I think as long as we can avoid losing these top 4 fixtures (by limiting their points) and continue our good form against the rest, then we can go on to win it.
I agree. City have been awful away in the first part of the season and they're only a point off the top. They will pick that form up, at least a little, which means Arsenal need to step it up, and they can do that in a big way by beating City & Utd.
A point at Stamford Bridge would be good, but United-City home, these are must win for us, moreso for United, they are there for the taking this year.
has anyone noticed we have played only 9 home games to Citys 10. so they have to play 10 away games to our 9, this may make the difference. 1 Arsenal 19 6 2 1 16 6 7 1 2 21 12 19 42 2 Man City 19 10 0 0 38 6 3 2 4 16 15 33 41 3 Chelsea 19 9 1 0 22 8 3 3 3 13 11 16 40 4 Everton 19 6 3 1 19 9 4 4 1 12 9 13 37 5 Liverpool 19 8 0 1 25 6 3 3 4 19 17 21 36 6 Man Utd 19 4 2 3 11 8 6 2 2 21 14 10 34 7 Tottenham 19 4 3 3 11 13 6 1 2 11 11 -2 34
