In which case, why do the Saints groundstaff (and, presumably, every other club's groundstaff) persist in watering the pitch? Is watering mean to improve the way/speed that the ball moves? If watering the pitch helps, is there an optimum amount of water (per square metre) after which the conditions become more and more Somme-like?
