Doesn't it just baffle you. We show great fighting spirit against Liverpool and Chelsea but play like pussies against the Mackems. In my opinion we should be playing Anita every week.

Where to start. Magnificent isn't it? We're just consistently inconsistent. Spot on tactically from Pardew today. I questioned him not playing Anita but 442 was right, and Sissoko put a shift in! I questioned him taking off Shola, again fair enough. He had a very very good day. To be honest though, not to take anything away from Pards, but the players were great. Very calm first half, played out the tactics perfectly which were clearly about soaking it up to keep energy after Wednesday.

MYM had a cracker. Willo did. Debuchy did. Santon was solid enough. Krul was excellent. Tiote immense again. Cabaye excellent (what did Pards say to him before that goal!). Gouf put a proper shift in and great movement for the header. Sissoko good shift. Ameobi very good bar couple of trips over the ball. Remy excellent. Anita excellent again. Shocker from Obertan <laugh> but even he had a hand in the goal. MOTM - Debuchy

Really good day. Have to be honest though, our support was **** tank first half, what was all that about? 2nd half was raucous. You could feel it happening in the ground, we visibly lifted. Remy in particular went up two or three levels.

Please just repeat this a bit more.

    Game report from the beeb.

Yoan Gouffran and Loic Remy scored second-half goals to give Newcastle a deserved victory over in-form Chelsea at St James' Park.

Chelsea, on the back of six straight wins, edged the first-half as John Terry hit the bar and had a header cleared off the line.

However, the Magpies dominated after the break and went ahead when Gouffran headed home Yohan Cabaye's free-kick.

Victory was sealed when Remy curled in a shot from Vurnon Anita's pass.
    Away day Blues

Chelsea's five points from their opening five away matches this season is their worst such return since three from their opening five in 2000-01.

And while it may still take supporters some time to forget last weekend's defeat against rivals Sunderland, this result gives more promise of steady progression following the draw against Liverpool and victory at Cardiff which preceded that derby day dejection.

Their victory over Chelsea, who started the day second in the Premier League, was built on a disciplined defensive display and a powerful second-half performance which overwhelmed their below-par visitors.

Chelsea playmakers Juan Mata, Oscar and Eden Hazard were not given room to dictate play, meaning Fernando Torres was starved of the service which helped him earn such praise in the aftermath of last weekend's victory over Manchester City.

Newcastle kept their shape well, limiting Chelsea to just two chances in a fairly subdued first-half - both of them from set-pieces.

First John Terry nipped in front of Mike Williamson to head Mata's corner against the bar before Davide Santon stooped to head the former England skipper's goal-bound header off the line.

Chelsea might have been dominating possession and pressing Newcastle back when they did lose the ball, but they lacked the penetration to break down their resolute hosts.

It also served to offer Newcastle encouragement, and the home side gradually seized control after the break - Chelsea keeper Petr Cech having to be alert to deny Moussa Sissoko and Gouffran.
    Cisse's struggles

When Papiss Cisse scored twice for Newcastle in a 2-0 win at Chelsea in May 2012 it took his goal tally to 13 from his first 12 Premier League matches. Since then he has scored only eight goals in 47 matches.

The pressure finally told in the 68th minute when Gouffran nipped in front of Branislav Ivanovic to head home Yohan Cabaye's free-kick.

It appeared Alan Pardew had instructed Cabaye to put the free-kick where he did, and the Newcastle manager was certainly getting the better of Mourinho in this particular tactical battle.

Samuel Eto'o, Willian and Andre Schurrle were all introduced from the bench by the Chelsea boss, and Eto'o appealed for a penalty when his shot was deflected wide via Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa's hand.

Willian also had a shot saved while Eto'o's follow-up was blocked by Mathieu Debuchy.

The game looked up for Chelsea when Eden Hazard dragged a shot wide from 12 yards out and so it proved as Remy scored his sixth goal of the season via the inside of the post.

It sealed a superb performance by the hosts, who move up to ninth in the Premier League, while Mourinho, who has never won at St James' Park, saw his side drop to third behind Liverpool.

Sunderland really are hilarious. Brilliant follow up of their derby win. Cattermole is never going to change. How many is that now? 7? Kid is ****ing idiot. I'm sure there will be the usual defence of him. I'm sure we'll be told its his reputation..........again.

    Get in Harps, clean sheet!

Hull were shockingly awful in the second half, Sunderland could and should have equalised. Save Livermore and Huddlestone going close they did nothing.

Just makes it all the sweeter. Turning into a great weekend. We win a game which beggars belief, the mackems have two sent off in defeat, England win the rugby.

I'm sure we'll be told Cattermole's red was harsh or they'll compare it to a Cabaye tackle missing the point completely again

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says he is "angry" with his players and "does not understand" why his side lost 2-0 at Newcastle.

Yoan Gouffran and Loic Remy scored second-half goals to end Chelsea's run of six straight wins.

Mourinho believes some of his players prefer playing in their "comfort zone" at home as they produce better performances at Stamford Bridge then they do away.

Jose seemed pretty gracious in defeat (like their fans) but rightly annoyed with his own lot. Obviously we must take some credit but they didn't show the energy levels you'd expect after that extra rest. Was Cahill injured? Not sure why these managers persist with Luis. Undoubted quality, be brilliant in Spain, probably be brilliant in the world cup but doesn't appreciate the constant pressing here.

Best chant of the day? "You're just a **** Colocini" to Luis. <laugh>

Still on a high but it makes those defeats to hull and the worst team in the league all the more frustrating. We could/should be sat on a hefty 20 points <laugh>

    Yo way, Jose!
    Newcastle 2 Chelsea 0

Second half strikes from Yoan Gouffran and Loic Remy propelled United to only their second home league win this season and deservedly ensured that the Blues left Tyneside pointless for the second time this year.

The opening half gave little indication of what lay in store for Toon fans, overcast skies meaning that the floodlights were on from the first whistle in this lunchtime kickoff.

Restoring Davide Santon, Yohan Cabaye and Loic Remy to the starting XI after changing his side in midweek, Alan Pardew retained Shola Ameobi in a 4-4-2 lineup, with Hatem Ben Arfa joining Papiss Cisse on the bench.

Fitness issues meant that Mike Williamson and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa continued in central defence and questions were asked when John Terry saw a 13th minute header rebound off the woodwork at the Gallowgate End.

United were seldom sighted as an attacking force for most of the opening 45 minutes, with what possession they did gain largely wasted by some slipshod passing.

However a 38th minute goal-line clearance by Santon was the spur for a forward foray that ended in Moussa Sissoko testing Petr Cech.

Having produced an inspirational display against Chelsea on his debut in January, Sissoko was in similar mood today - prompting speculation as to the nature of the grudge he seems to hold against the Stamford Bridge mob.

He had the St.James' crowd on their feet after 60 minutes when driving into the box from the right flank before pinging a low shot that was deflected narrowly wide.

That was the signal for a black and white assault on the visitors' goal, as United rightly sensed that Chelsea were posing less and less of a threat and three points were there for the taking.

Within a minute Remy shot at Cech before Gouffran saw his 65th minute effort turned round a post. Better was to come though, with Pardew claiming an assist for United's opening goal - spotting that Ashley Cole was rattled by the efforts of Sissoko and others down the United right and directing his side to focus their efforts accordingly.

That paid immediate dividends when Cole promptly gave away a foul and after consulting with his manager, Cabaye pumped forward a perfect ball for Gouffran to convert with a diving header.

Going in search of more goals, a 72nd minute sequence of passing that will be a leading candidate for move of the season end with Remy's shot deflected as Chelsea were reduced to arguing with each other and their manager prowled along the touchline in obvious dismay.

One heart-stopping moment saw Eden Hazard find a yard of space in the United box before drilling his shot wide of Tim Krul's goal, but the points were secured when some brilliance from Vurnon Anita set up Remy to hammer in Newcastle's second of the afternoon.

And the margin of victory could have even been larger, had late replacement Gabriel Obertan not inexplicably contrived to lose possession when powering forward.

Newcastle became the first side to score twice in the Premier League against Jose Mourinho's side this season, as they inflicted only a second league defeat in Chelsea's last 18 league matches.

Putting statistics aside though, the scoreline and second half performance restored some much-needed credibility to the squad and manager after a tricky week - and the three points were very gratefully received.

A minute's silence was observed pre-match ahead of Remembrance Sunday next weekend, while calls for a show of support for the banned local journalists by brandishing newspapers largely fell on deaf ears.

The visiting manager acknowledged shouts of "sit down Mourinho" in the closing seconds of the game, while a hearty chorus of "just a sh*t Coloccini" was directed at David Luiz and audible on worldwide TV broadcasts.

    Alan Pardew:

"We've had some moments where we've not been so great but we're together. I'm pleased for the club.

"Today was about giving a message to our fans that we're very much alive and kicking. And I'm pleased for everyone associated with Newcastle, it's a big win for us.

"We decided to be very cautious from the start, not let them play for us, and we perhaps let them have a bit too much possession and there wasn't enough pressure on the ball.

"But we knew second half we had enough to exert pressure and the crowd were getting behind us, and that's exactly what happened. The goal came at a great time for us.

"We've got a great spirit in the group. I think we've played well.

On the Cabaye free kick for the opener:

"I just asked him to hit it on the back of their back four with shape and a bit of pace because we weren't really getting any joy from balls going into their box.

"He went for glory, really, but he executed it on the money and I am not going to try to take any credit for that.

"You have to be a top, top player to hit that ball in, and Gouff connected brilliantly and gave us a platform then."

"I'd like to think we could have had three more points. That would have put us in a great position and we have got to try to make that up in the next 10 games if we can.

"But I do think we have played some really good football. I wouldn't say we were brilliant in the first half, but in the second half, we were very good today."
