Newcastle in £2m fight for striker Rhodes

Alan Pardew is ready for a £2million scrap with Celtic for Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes.

Newcastle boss Pardew will battle the Glasgow giants to sign the Scotland international when the transfer window opens in January.

Rhodes has a £2m escape-clause in his contract at his League One club, and Pardew is prepared to stump up the cash and steal a march on Celtic counterpart Neil Lennon.

Pardew is keen to recruit young talent and has identified Rhodes as a top target.


The 21-year-old has scored 58 goals in under two years, and made his Scotland debut, since joining the Terriers from Ipswich for around £500,000.

Heard him having an interview on talksport a few weeks ago, seems a cracking chap. Would be a bargain at 2million aswell.

I've seen him a few times and heard very good things about him. I trust Clarky's judgement too and I'd like to think he wouldn't rip off Newcastle by letting us pay over the odds for a player who won't cut it in the Premier League.

Seen him a few times and seems a good player, whether he can carry it though to the Premier League is another thing.. Reminds me slightly of Danny Graham and he isnt doing to badly.. Will probably be back up player for a season or so with potential of breaking into the first team, this for 2 mil isn't a too bad deal!
