Im with Owl on this. We have not heard the quote yet, and it could well be taken out of context. DG wanted premiership football and admitted it. But he would have stayed if Swansea had not offered enough. Plus, Mapps is with in a year or 2 of the captaincy and a nice bonus with it. If he leaves he will be a backup center back who might sit on the bench if he is lucky every week. He could stay here, take an improved contract and only improve his stock.
i don't disagree...and it would be interesting to hear the quote, but the story is building, and usually that doesn't happen without basis..we will have to see what Bas does with this...
Were it not for the financial fair play rule, I'm absolutely certain City would make Tevez a higher profile Winston Bogarde. And fair play to them if they did.
Bugger - I was hoping that we'd lose a couple of the non-performers and replace them with someone better. Hope you're wrong.
So that is it then, the news that we have been waiting for straight from The Sun. WATFORD ace Adrian Mariappa is set to hand in a transfer request after Newcastle increased their initial £2million bid. The defender, 25, had already rejected a slightly improved four-year deal at Vicarage Road after Toon's first approach.
Of course it depends on what paper you read. Taken from the WO today: Sean Dyche has indicated Watford would try to sign a direct replacement for Adrian Mariappa if the defender was sold but insists he doesn’t expect the player to leave before the window closes. Dyche did not rule out the possibility of both Sordell and Mariappa leaving in this window, when asked, but he stated it is “absolutely nowhere near that.” and the club were not in a position where they had to sell. I would be surprised, but it depends on who you mean. The likes of Mirfin could go for nothing (we got him on a free) or very little, but others like Forsyth would not be so simple and would have to go for a bit more which would require a bit more negotiation.
Latest from up here chaps. http://www.nufcblog.com/2012/01/27/newcastle-put-in-improved-offer-for-center-back/
From The Sun 'Watford defender Adrian Mariappa is set to hand in a transfer request after Newcastle increased their initial £2million bid'
This really does stink, they said the low bid wasn't made to unsettle the player, but in reality it just has to, if you know someone is after you, your head will be turned. The waft of money Not that I don't want him to go on bigger and better things but this mid season window is just cr@p
Fair play to you, 3 bids rejected. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/9498696.Watford_reject_third_Newcastle_bid/
From what I heard tonight NN and Mariappa were superb giving no room to the multi-million pound forwards from Spurs. Also they used their experience to guide and help the younger players turn in a really good performance. Surely this has to increase the amount of money that we think Mapps is worth. If he is this good he must be over £5M. Just what the pairing of the two of them is worth to Watford has to be far in excess of that. Unless there are things being reported about the state of our finances that are not true, then let's try and keep him until the end of the season.
amen to that M Frenchie. I do hope we can keep him in this window. He's worth far more to us right now than £5m...
Mapps was amazing tonight.....had Adebayor in his pocket!!!!!! I think that the interest in him and his valuation will go a lot higher because of this game.
