Well, the missus and I have done our Life Changing Thing earlier this summer. We had a massive fall out with the landlord and the net result was that we told him to shove his keys up his tight upper class English arse and that we hope that the Sons Of Glyndwr set fire to the cottage. So we moved the retirement plan a few years early by putting everything into storage and then took off in our motorhome.

Currently we're in Cornwall and tomorrow we're off to England to visit a chum who owns Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean (you may have seen the place in some BBC programmes such as Merlin, Doctor Who and the like) before going back through Nearly Wales (ie the bottom part), through Mid Wales, over to Yorkshire for Christmas and New Year. The North East then the outer Scottish islands if the weather packs in.

I'm lucky I can still do my work whilst on The Gin Palace though I must keep the travel blog up to date which is going to be my resolution and I will catch up when we land tomorrow.

Great fun this, hard work but brilliant. Two regrets: the first is not doing this a few years earlier and the second is that my drumkit is in storage...

Can we get the travel blog address or would you be giving too much away? Sounds like it could be quite amusing, particularly if you think Cornwall is not part of England.
I can imagine that the wife is quite happy that the drum kit is in storage - the thought of someone drumming in a motorhome sounds worse than waterboarding.

The blog address is www.sixofswords.net but there is a load of stuff to catch up on as we have been busy with a lot of stuff so this is tomorrow's job.

Actually I did work out the power required for my electric kit and that it could run forever on the solar panels but the wife put her foot down. There is one thing worse than someone drumming in a motorhome and that's Phil Collins or Roger Taylor trying to get out a groove...

I envy the freedom you have mate.
Must be mint just upping and going off somewhere when you wish.
One day I hope to have the time to visit the Scottish Island and highlands.
Meant to be spectacular and the Northern Lights very visible also.

If I ever win the lottery then my dream is to live a life on the move - only difference would be that I'd be doing it on a narrowboat rather than a motorhome. The only downside is that they never connected the North-East to the canal system so I'd have to spend all my time darn sarf.

Nev. Clearly you've never had to deal with the bastards at the British Waterways Board. They don't like full timers and do their utmost to make their lives hell. They do like tourists though but not those who want to live on the water.

My wife used to live on the Llangollen Canal on a boat and she was glad to leave it all behind as it was nothing but an uphill struggle dealing with the BWB.

The downside is he'd be closer to me FFS. LUCKILY he won't win the lottery so all is good.

Yeah it'd be ok in the summer when continuous cruising is easier, but a bit of a bastard in the winter trying to persuade them you'd moved far enough down the canal within 2 weeks. I think a lot depends what canal you're on. The trent and mersey isn't too bad from what I hear and a lot of the ones further north are more relaxed, but the further south you go they seem to get stricter. Wont ever happen - but we all have a dream! Love the idea of moving around all the time.

To be fair, if I won the lottery and wanted a life on the move, the dank waterways of southern England and the midlands would be the last place I would choose. Each to their own though, I can see why that pace of life would appeal to people. Look at the places around the world you could go, though. Some of them even have nice weather! I'd just go to a country/city for a few weeks at a time and then go somewhere else, intermixed with return visits to the UK at certain times of the year. Maybe a 2nd home in Tenerife or somewhere. Hopefully I won't have win the lottery to achieve this.

New Years resolutions that involve winning the lottery are probably not going to be too easy to stick to. Sounds like we are starting to move on to bucket lists.
I want to get fit again in New Year - cant seem to get a regular routine at the moment.
Places I want to go on holiday soon:
    Angkor Wat
    Touring in Canadian Rockies
    Argentina

Yeah, yeah. Drink less, eat better, exercise more, learn a new language, take piano lessons, join a salsa dance class, bake your own bread, yada, yada, yada. If you really wanted to do it, you'd already be doing it.
