Exactly what i said the other day. What's the point of worrying about others when we keep getting beat? Yes great all the teams around us lose but if we don't beat Chelsea what's the point?
Well it makes the difference of whether we need to make up another 3 points or not. If we're going to lose tomorrow I'd rather all the others did aswell. Personally after the Liverpool game my outlook has taken a more pessimistic outlook on our future, but relegation battles are all about not only hoping we win, but hoping others don't. Wigan ended last season with 7 wins in the last 9...gaining almost as many points in those games as they did the the first 29 games. If all the other teams at the bottom had been winning aswell their efforts would have failed. Of course you still have to hope others feck up. We obviously have to start winning.
My point being that somhow we still need to get something like another 25 - 30 points irrespective of what other sides do and i can not see us getting anything tomorrow.
if teams just above us keep winning the 25-30 points needed will get bigger we need to keep it as low as possible so others losing no matter how we do will always be welcome. obviously we need to start picking up points soon.
The thing is... a few weeks ago we wanted Norwich/West Ham/Swans/WBA and others to lose and then its all change! (as they have won a few) and then i's another lot of teams we want to lose and the sad thing is.... We keep losing and all the others manage to get points. Lets just worry about QPR and the rest ca worry about us.
COH agreed but at the moment we need to start getting some results but 30 additional points should be enough to be safe as the other sides around us will still lose more than they will win, so if they have a win now or later it matters little as we still have to get sufficient points to give ourselves a chance.
We could in theory get 30 more points and go down. Or get 25 more points and stay up. The final figure is not set in stone so until then, we need others to keep losing so our target is lower. Obviously unless we improve then we won't get anywhere near a total that will even threaten the team in 19th let alone 17th. But as I said above Wigan last year were total dross for 29 games....getting only 22 points and scoring 25 conceding 54. What changed their fortunes to suddenly win 7 from 9...beating teams like Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal and Newcastle? Can lightning strike twice and we turn it around like that? The odds are against us but it's been proven not to be impossible.
Problem is every week one or more of the others in trouble gets a result. Wigan and Reading were predictable and Arsenal should see off the Saints but we really would need a miracle to get a draw tomorrow. We've got to start winning games to have any hope but we are starting from scratch based on Sunday's dross...
A few weeks ago all those teams were near the top..or in the top half. Don't think anyone was hoping they'd lose because they were relegation rivals. Maybe just because we don't like them much.
They were just examples of us wanting different teams each week, and then someone else a week later. As i said we just need to win and worry about our points because you will drive yourself mad worrying about who's winning and who you want to win each week.
More luck for us, an og? At least Saints are playing like team who believe they can win this game. Hope Arsenal can score a few more goals in the 2nd half and secure the win.
We got lucky again, that was a good goal, Saints should be 2-1 up. Given Saints current luck I wonder if Arsenal can nick it?
They've played some decent stuff this season, always look capable of scoring and, sad to say, I think they'll stay up...
