Oh dear Forest have spent some of the Wes Morgan money before the recieved it

Nottingham Forest chairman Frank Clark stressed today that the club did everything possible to keep defender Wes Morgan at The City Ground.

And he went on to reveal that when it became inevitable that the move would go through, Forest made sure they had got the best deal they could in difficult circumstances.

Said Clark: "The last thing we wanted was to lose Wes and we were prepared to keep him here until the summer, knowing full well he could then leave for nothing under freedom of contract.

"But Wes, aware of the offer that was on the table for him at Leicester, was adamant that he wanted to go in the transfer window.

"When that became crystal clear it was up to us to negotiate the best possible deal for the club and having managed to secure a seven figure transfer fee for a player who could have walked out in the summer, we feel we have done as well as we could have been expected to do.

"It is important that we are transparent with our supporters about the affair and to that degree it is only right that they also know about the money from the sale.

"As with most transfers 50 per cent is paid now and 50 per cent in a year・fs time and some of the money has already been spent on wages to bring Greg Cunningham and Marlon Harewood into the club. Those deals were not in the current budget.

"The rest of the money will be made available to the manager who has been working incredibly hard with Keith Burt, our Director of Recruitment and Scouting, to try and bring some loan players into the club and address the imbalanced nature of the squad."
