Exactly - if they are building a new stadium it'll go on that patch of land. Interestingly there's a train line running along it as well so you could even add a station to the development.

The only thing would be the hill leading down to the Tyne would need to be leveled (up OR down) to flatten it as I don't think you could get the current SJP in to that patch before the hill starts:

I don't see the point of putting the old St James' Park on the arena site.

Leazes Park would be great - you're effectively only shifting the stadium about a mile, preserving it's "on the hill" position (more or less). However, I think that'll be fraught with challenges - wildlife, green space, etc.

Metro Arena site seems the likely choice., however, as it's a load of ****ty, derelict land. banks of the Tyne for the olds, short walk from Central. Look at the site on a map, it's an almost ready-made shape and could comfortable fit a Tottenham Hotspur stadium in it.
Leazes Park is next door as in 10 yards away
literally at the end of the Leazes car park is the start of the park

Ok I should have been more to the point, if we are looking to build a bigger and better stadium we'll need to level it out as the current SJP doesn't fit there so a bigger stadium certainly won't!

I'd guess levelling, like any groundwork, is a lot cheaper than trying to extend over the grade 1 stuff. Plus there's more you'd want to do, retractable covers, things like that.

The rail line is a great point as well. Naming wise it'd just become the Aramco Arena, easily the wealthiest company with revenues of around $535bn and rising. They could in theory fund the whole thing, so the club wouldn't have to pay, then we'd just agree a 1000 year lease for $1.....
