I'm not in the habit of "taking sides", and in my opinion plenty of the IRA are murdering scumbags, but the whole of the troubles cannot be blamed on one side, that would be simplistic at best.

I don't agree with the IRA's methods, I have made that crystal clear, my view is unambiguous, but likewise I don't like what I saw when I served in NI, that's why I gave up on religion because no religion is worth dying or killing for.

There is no black and white in Northern Ireland but plenty of shades of grey.

They felt that they were free to speak their mind in the company of British soldiers who shared their beliefs, even though none of the guys I was with gave a damn about religion. I'm not suggesting that all UDR or RUC men were bigots but there certainly were bigots among them who were not afraid to call a spade a spade, or Catholics "the enemy".
