Yeah that's what I am hoping, hopefully we have been waiting for the sale of Gazza to go through for us to go and sign defenders. What does everyone think about Dean Morgan as he is on trial? He is a striker who also plays on the wing, we need a winger but is he the one we want?
Ian Danter talkSPORT ‏@talkdants Just a reminder that I'm on @talkSPORT Saturday night Sports Bar from 9pm & Gillingham manager Martin Allen is alongside me in the studio
Yeah that is the other option but I would not mind him signing permanently. We need a centre back, left back, winger and with Jack Payne going then we need another midfielder as we have let a few go and only brought Allen in. With Frampton and Essam at the club for centre back if we bring in one new one I think Davies will need to make the step up and play first team football as 3 centre backs would not be enough. Last season we had Essam, Richards, King, Lawrence, Frampton and also Davies as a back up so we had a lot more options but if we sort out the injury problems we don't need that many.
does anyone know the extent of flitneys injury? ive heard hapdash talk not ready for the start of the season etc so therefore forcast has been brought in (prob for nothing as someone said) to be cover for him till he's fit and for competition. as for the others strevens brings some league experince (which as i mentioned on another thread is badly lacking) and allen junior/pup was always gonna happen. however i think he may play more of a role than the last to sons of managers we had at the club
Think allen signed his boy at notts county so just a family thing, not too hopefull he will be quality.
I think you might have answered an earlier question of mine (on another thread), why we needed Forecast knowing that we were going to sign Stuart Nelson. So i now also wonder if Flitney still be recovering from his injury. Knee if my memory serves me correctly?
Pretty non-plussed with these three signings Just hoping there is better to come than this. A far cry from last seasons magnificent seven!
whats going on, i go out for the day and find we've signed four players lets hope we spend some money on quality now and push on
Serious thought for a moment... I believe that Gazza going and the new signings today have flown under Gillingham fans radar today simply because of Martin Allen's personality. If we had been half way through last season and Hessy made these identical changes, I reckon the fans would have buried him, for want of better words. There, I have said it, best I go and hide.
as if correcting hoadie every five minutes isn't enough, you are now stirring up a storm of higher bounds brb quick throw that rope over this here branch to justify the injustice that now stands before us... though you are right in the fact that these signings don't exactly set the world alight do they !
I've already got my season ticket and will support the Gills whatever, however, I'm not going to lie to keep people of my case. Martin Allen has a personality that I like but I have seen nothing CURRENTLY in our transfer deals, that has changed us into an auto promotion side. If Martin goes at Christmas, I can read the interview now, line for line...I left them with a better bank balance (well anyone could have with Gazza for sale) than when I went there and have left them in a decent position in the league! The one point that will be missing is that you actually got a team promoted. I just don't want to be winging 3 months in to the season and every one say, well you were saying it was all good brb! Where's my Hoadie gone?
Reasons to be Cheerful 1 ..2..3 1 Summer's finally on on it's way ( and as you read this, so your death is a little nearer !) 2 Olympics start next week ( brb at least will be happy - more fit birds to ogle ) 3 Gills new formation will be 4 1 2 4 That's 4 goalkeepers, 1 defender ( Essam ) 2 midfielders & 4 strikers I don't think that what we've got ( for free ) is too bad - we do need to buy quality - CB, LB & winger ( that's winger - not whinger brb )
I think these are good signings and the squad is shaping up nicely, a centre half (2 would be good) a left back and a winger, and we are there in my opinion, I sometimes wonder what people expect, Nelson and Strevens both played in league 1 last season, and add strength to our squad, which in my opinion under performed last season partly due to our managers short comings, but a first XI of Nelson, Fuller, Essam, New CB/Frampton, New LB, Whelpdale, Lee, Payne, Jackman, Kedwell and Birchall with Forecast, Martin, New CB, Montrose, Allen, and Strevens on the bench doesn't look to shabby to me, though I would like to add more pace in the wide areas
alwaysright - I see what your doing there with that opening line... How did you know mate, my contacts come good eh? Ian Dury on the wing? hit me with your rhythm stick Back on topic, Sky report that all three signings were on a free: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/1836/7920663/Gillingham-seal-deals-for-trio
Personally I think it's a good start with the 4 signings. I discount Allen as one of the players who will bolster the starting 11 but Strevens inparticular is a very clever signing in my opinion. He's a player who delivers the same week in week out and that's more than you can say about most of our starting 11 at the moment. Nelson is who I expect to start in goal at this stage and I've heard very good things about him. In my mind we only made two proper signings yesterday (apologies to Allen and Forecast) but I see them more as back up players. Allen stated that he and the Chairman decided that it's the starting 11 that needs strengthening and I still expect to see another 4-5 signings made.
