So what top level experience does Houghton have? He was with Newcastle when they got relegated wasn't he? Then they got rid of him when he got them promoted. Has he managed in the prem other than that?

    Absolutely corect on both counts.

The timing of the two statements with McNally pre-empting Malky means nothing - he was never going there.

He knows far more than we do about where we're going as a club, and Norwich would be a struggle next season.

If we wanted Malky, he would of come, there is absolutely no question about it, and if you think otherwise, you're deluded. He said he wanted to stay at Cardiff after McNally said he was interested only in 'top league' managers. This is no coincidence.

As for Hughton he managed Newcastle in the Premier League after getting them promoted from the Championship. He got sacked in December 2010. His first home win on return to the Premier League came on 22 August, when Newcastle thrashed Aston Villa 6–0, with 3 goals from Andy Carroll, 2 goals from Kevin Nolan and 1 goal from Joey Barton. Hughton has received praise for his calm management style to stabilise the club, shrewd signings and guiding Newcastle back to the league and securing a good start to life in the Premier League. Prior to Newcastle's 1–1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers and away win at Everton, he completed the signings of Cheick Tioté and Hatem Ben Arfa. Despite leading his newly promoted side to healthy ninth place by the end of Octoberr, unrest came when star player Andy Carroll was arrested for assault. Newcastle followed this with wins at West Ham United and a memorable 5–1 derby victory against Sunderland. Both before and after the victory Hughton received the backing of his players and the Newcastle supporters. Later in 2010, Hughton led United to their first win against Arsenal in five years, beating Arsenal 1–0 at the Emirates Stadium with an Andy Carroll header.

Following a 3–1 defeat at West Brom in December, Hughton became the first Premier League manager of the 2010–11 season to lose his job, as he was dismissed by Managing Director Derek Llambias. The decision was ill received by the players and the supporters, with veteran defender Sol Campbell claiming that the decision "makes no sense", and local commentator and ex-player John Anderson saying he was "devastated and angry" by the sacking.

    Maybe your the deluded one.

Something isnt right at Norwich. Manager gone. Holt demands transfer.

Malky has talked about commitment and being told of major investment.

The word down here is Norwich wanted him.

Of course that may be wrong.

But Norwich are hardly a big draw like Liverpool.

The way Malky is talking hes been told by our board hes being backed.

If he wasnt then I think hed be Norwich manager.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, if we offered him the job, he would of walked to Carrow Road. He played over 200 games for us and is very highly regarded by us, and he knows it. He also absolutely loved his time here.

Everything is fine at our club. Manager leaving is not that expected and Holt is just being an idiot!

"McNally said yesterday that Norwich would only appoint a manager with 'top level' experience which seemed to rule out Mackay, who had already told the Canaries he was staying at Cardiff City."

Carra - what don't you understand about this? your post may be your opinion mate, but it smacks of arrogance.

McNally made his statement as a result of Malky's statement, not before it.

Actually news of Malky staying broke at least 13 hours after the Norwich statement, check out the timelines on newsnow.co.uk below

Norwich City appear to rule out Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay Wales Online 00:11 Mon, 04 Jun 2012

Mackay commits future to Cardiff BBC 13:34 Mon, 04 Jun 2012

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18322844

'Mackay's pledge to the Championship side came just hours after Norwich chief executive David McNally had revealed his Premier League club wanted a manager with "top-league" experience. '

If he was that comitted why didnt Malky issue that statement a couple of days ago....

Because Malky is now coming out making statements about major investment in the club.

The word down here is Norwich wanted him but Malky wanted to stay at Cardiff.

Malky im sure is about to be given the funds he wants.

Why go to Norwich? Id make them my relegation favourites next season.

To be fair to Rodgers if your at Swansea and your offered the Liverpool job you take it.

Swansea fans should wish Rodgers all the best.

They should look at their board. All that money - rubbish training facilities , no academy , small council ground and cant attract the Wigan no.2.

Jenkins is right not to overspend as Swansea will eventually get relegated. But you have to invest in developing the club.

Not interested in timelines and "when news broke" according to the media.

The fact is that the word here was that Malky was made aware of what was on offer to him this season at least a week ago. It was that that led him to tell Norwich that he didn't want to be considered when permission was granted to McNally to talk to him.

McNally then broke the story about only wanting "proven managers with experience in the top flight".

Now now Stid ,just because another of your managers got out ASAP no need to think they are all like that ..............Agee with Hilts as all the money you seem to boast about and you still have a council run ground with no academy/good training complex and can not attract a no-body!!! .

If you hold your manager highly enough then would he not be good enough to keep Norwich up? I suspect the answer is no, which is why I am not in the slightest bit troubled that he isn't going back to Norfolk this time round <ok>

as i said before, the bets norwich can hope for this season is to finish around 15th. the worst is finishing 20th.

lambert did incredibly well to get a bunch of lower league 100%ers to mid table, my manager of the year. on paper they had the worst set of players in the league last year, thats how well lambert did.

its a poisoned chalice, chucking malky in at the deep end at a club up against it would be madness IMO. he was right to turn it down....i think the job is suited to someone who has successfully beaten the drop in the past, someone like bruce.

I am not stating outright that you are wrong, you well prove to be right but because PL has left does not strictly mean we are going to have a worse season, same as when DJ and most of your better players left last summer (it had no real effect). Therefore I do not believe it is a poisoned chalice at all, where as Villa could well be considered to be one but PL may well turn there fortunes round (again, just because he had a good run with Norwich does not mean he will do the same for Villa). Football does not always work on logic, if it did we would never have gone down to league 1 a few years ago <ok>

Got no problem with that Thai - maybe it'll suit us both. <ok>

What gets up our noses a bit across here is the arrogance of some of your guys saying " if we wanted Malky, then we'd get him".

It bears no compliance with the facts (as we know them) that Malky has stated that he does not want to leave Cardiff for Norwich. He has obviously been told a lot more about the future investment into the club than we mere supporters and that has influenced his decision.

No sweat mate, but maybe he's looking ahead and considering in which division he'll be managing the season after next. <ok>

At the end of the day it does not matter who said what first.

Norwich are a well run club with a good fan base and should have no problem getting a top manager.

Cardiff are keeping Malky and with some help from our board can make Cardiff as good as Norwich with his own team.

    Both teams win IMO

I can understand that <ok> and you know I would never be quite so bold to spill the same kind of stuff but that is just how some football fans are, whichever club they support.

Please don't fall in to the trap believing if you do get this investment that it means you will go up, take Leicester as an example. From what I understand most of the money to be invested will be swallowed up by paying loans, building new facilities and increasing the capacity. It might not leave as much as some may be hoping to invest in the team.

I agree about Leicester last season being a prime example of money pumped in not guaranteeing promotion - but it does help (West Ham).

Malky achieved what he did last season on the bones of his arse with the minimal squad he had at his disposal. A few targeted players to fill the obvious deficient positions could (I repeat could) make all the difference.

Anyway, time will tell, and the very best of luck to Norwich in finding the best candidate for manager - would really like to play you lot the following season, and not in the Championship either! <ok>
