I actually think it's time to let Kelly go. Thought he was a real talent a few years back, looked great at RB despite being a natural CB, but injury after injury have blighted his chances and I think this summer will see him leave elsewhere. Unless he gets a chance as the RCB, at least as fourth pick, there's no point in him staying on our books imo. He needs to move on for his career at the least.

  2. I think he can do a job at a Premier League club, similar to the likes of Wes Brown and John O'Shea.

Correct, their preferred position is CB. Kelly's injuries may well be down to playing out of position.

Incidentally, how did Wisdom's loan go, anyone know? I heard he was playing at CB for Derby(I think?). He was a monster, but lacked experience. Really composed on the ball, I'm a big fan of him. He only ever played in our first team at RB though because of his lack of experience - similar to how Carra started out I guess. Get experience in a less demanding (somewhat) position.

  5. Correct but players don't sign up for a solitary position either <ok>

He was playing RB the other night. Heard he was close to being Derbys player of the season.
Personally I think we will sign Richards ...for good or bad. Great player if you can keep him fit..and it's a big if! But remember how injury prone Gerrard has been but we wouldn't have ever considered getting rid of him. Also medical team seem pretty good too.

Gerrard hasn't even been that injury prone. Since 2000 he's played 30+ games in the league in every season apart from 3. That's not a terrible record at all. Richards has only played over 30 league games in one season since he became a regular at City in 2006.

If we don't sign a right back, I'd be more than happy to have Wisdom there - the very least he can do is actually pass the ball 5 yards and to his own teammate.

Left back is a big position we need to fill - I think Enrique will be leaving and Flanno is a back up at best.

But going back to Johnson - I hope this is the last time I see him in a LFC shirt.

I disagree, I think we'll need really good full backs on each side for next season. Wisdom would do as a back up but until he develops into a top right back that can help in attack then I think we need a more senior player on that side to play most games. Teams will have looked at how Chelsea & Newcastle played against us this season and pushed us a lot harder by sitting back in numbers and restricting our play. We need two quality full backs to help us in these types of games. Like Barca have Alves AND Jordi Alba. Or City have Zabaleta AND Clichy/Kolarov.

  10. I hope we sell Johnson and let Wisdom and Flanno fight it out for the RB position.

I'd be happy with Wisdom in the sense that he's solid and can defend. He's light years ahead of Flanno IMO who got bullied today.

Wisdom would be good if we have a very good offensive left back (to ensure balance).

  12. I think Wisdom is better defensively but Flanno is better as a WB type player.

I disagree - Wisdom is faster, better passer and more suited to RWB role, however I thinnk Ryan McLaughlin is the best RWB we have at this club. One for the future ...

Haha not at all - I'll admit that I didn't think he had a future at the club but he proved me wrong and I think he can be a decent back up option on both flanks.

Flanagan needs to improve a lot more to be considered a starter. Right now he's best suited to being cover. When he comes in for the odd run of games he'll be highly motivated, which will make up for most of his shortcomings. He's not Maldini for goodness sake.

Kelly will go, Wisdom will hopefully replace him. Doing very well for Derby and getting big game experience right now too.

I'd have taken Montoya as my choice at fullback but it looks like he'll stay at Barca now.

at last some sense. once the dust has settled and peoeple no longer have to play nice and pull together we are seeing some f'n sense.

flanagan is average, i consistently say there is nothing wrong with being average... but a start? saving us millions? complete load IMO if LFc wants to be everton and get by, live within resources and be on the fringers fine make allen and flanagan (two obvious average players) starting 11.

If we want to go for competing, then we have to invest each year and if flanagan can't cope and vanishes cos there's just plain better than him fair enough.

widowm is ok but again while he's got the power there's a lot better full back out there. what we are looking for is not a "i was a full back form 12" player nor a "i'm a fast mobile Cb" player we need "i used to be a winger" type.

Flanagan is a squad player, there's nothing wrong with that. He's got heart and determination, but is not good enough as a starting player for a side that continues to aspire for the title.
