Hmm. Is the manager telling them to sit on the lead, or are the players losing confidence and doing what footballers do in those circumstances. I remember Jack Charlton being very impressed in the '76 Final when we kept a high line despite taking such a late lead. He made the point that players tend to drop back and defend in these circumstances. Lawrie looked smug at the compliment, but how much of that was down to leadership on the pitch? Jim Steele and Mel Blyth pushed the full backs up. I don't see a leader on the pitch.

As for MP, I reluctantly wanted him gone but now wonder whether we've left it too late to twist, and we are forced to stick.

Never too late. The guy's so out of his depth its unreal. Worst manager Ive ever seen at saints- and I saw ALL of Branfoot's tenure. He will get us relegated, I would trust Les to manage more than him. And that's saying something.

MP2 is gone this month. Just turned over my Saints calendar to see he's the face of February. Well...he's either getting the sack or pulling his hamstring. That's how these things usually work right?

Somewhat strangely, if MP is still here at the end of the season, I suspect we'll still be a PL team (or, at worst, we'll be relegated only on the final day).

I can't see a scenario where he's on the touchline for the Man City game, with us already relegated. He either goes beforehand, or we move up the table. Even if it's only up to 17th.

Latest on Saintsweb is that if we lose tomorrow MP is gone, draw then might or might not go and if we win staying. Replacement lined up. May all be rubbish who knows.....well we will by Monday.

I think if a replacement is lined up then win, lose or draw he would be gone.

The replacement lined up is the game changer...no way will he be sacked to leave us in limbo.

My stepson, the one who’s a fire station chief, burnt his chest while completing a fire limbo in Thailand a couple of years ago.

I know you are joking, but realistically there is no one at the club who can step in even temporarily. And we have had a lot of draws, so not a run of losses. I want Mauricio replaced by a good manager who will be here longer than 5 minutes....seems impossible....if they are any good, they leave. The board did what they thought was a good decision....try to replace Puel with someone better. That has turned out to be a mistake, but I accept it was done in good faith. They then decided to continue to support Mauricio....though failed to get in the players he needed.

It will be interesting to see if they persevere with Pellegrino should we get ourselves together and stay up. I can see them doing it, but in that case they really have to get the players in that he needs and we have to hope he will have gained some experience from a difficult season.

I've never understood this whole "win your next game or you're sacked" line that comes out all the time. Surely even our rubbish board can't be that stupid? They can't just base their decision on sacking someone on 1 game ffs. Say he wins and we play really well, does that cancel out the last 25 games where in general we have been terrible? If they have got even slightly close to one game to save your job territory then they should just sack him.

I don't believe one game makes any difference once the decision is made....though possibly it might make it look better in publicity terms. Poor Nigel ruined that plan by getting a fighting draw at Chelsea. :)

Anyone fancy Conte in as his replacement? No, not you Gabbiadini, we all know how you and your wand of a left foot feel about it :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Conte appears to fall apart as soon as things go against him, so no.

And when it comes to alienating his best striker, the man has no peers.

I am fairly certain that MP2 will be here next season if we get a decent finish to the season. The board seem to like him and, if the end of the season shows an upturn, I'm sure they will give him a second season. I think they are looking for stability and don't want to start all over again with yet another manager...perhaps the poor play this season is just a clever ruse to keep anyone from filching our manager. :)

Would have to be one hell of a run to keep me happy with that scenario.

Don't think people will necessarily be happy with that, but I think the board have been more tolerant than fans so far, so a decent and successful end of season run will probably clinch it for Mauricio....unless, of course, he is fed up with Saints (remember it works both ways).

Well I’d be fine with a man that has a 70% win percentage in the top flight managing us. Call me crazy!
