Watched the last few mins on Sky - grass very lush and long - also very few markings on the pitch thank ****.. luckily dry warm weather so hopefully not too much damage - how many games have the eggchasers got left at the KC?
That's one of the many things which the council refuse to pay up for, and which Papa wants to sort out but not until he owns the ground. Nick Thompson suggested to me about 6 months ago that he thinks this fact will help force the council's hand into selling.
The pitch should be the responsibility of the SMC not the Council but Hull FC should be paying their share of the cost of maintaining it..
Only 10,000 there tonight. Understandable. I mean with such **** weather, distance to travel for visiting fans, cold dark nights etc.....
I don't understand the details at all, but as far as I know it is the council's responsibility and I do know that Terry Gerraghty promised on the day the stadium opened that he and his council would ensure the stadium was maintained in the best condition possible.
Wouldn't believe anything Geriatric said- he doesn't know his arse from his elbow as to who does what at the KC - not sure he was even involved at the time anyway - Lib Dems were in office not labour. Best possible condition? - they haven't even painted the turnstile doors since it was built.
I did wonder that as I was typing it. When it was the 10 year anniversary at the KC Burnsy was doing loads of features on it and one of them played a snippet of Gerraghty offering that pledge. I'm sure it was the day the KC opened but that wouldn't make sense if they weren't even in power would it :S
No it's the SMC's responsibility to maintain all physical matters relating to the stadium - that's precisely what they are there for. If he said that, he meant that they (the council) would ensure the SMC do that.
An absolute guess, but is it possible that, while it is the SMC's responsibility, Papa feels that some of the works are warranty issues, and that's the missing paperwork he's mentioned?
I was there last night; the pitch was immaculate even after the game. The pitch markings were really faint, barely visible in fact, so no need to worry about those showing through when football starts up again. Although the grass should ideally be longer for rugby than football I suspect it was left that long to protect the surface, you could tell from the lawn mower markings they used a small manual cutter instead of the large sit on ones.
4 to 6 (depending on results) over the next 4 months, meaning there will be almost zero damage come the start of the football season, one less thing for people to complain about I guess!
They do receive an income from both clubs, that's what's used to fund any works that need doing at the ground, they make no profit, but they do generate income to cover costs.
In that case I'd assume it must be a lack of funds (probably due to this FC situation) that's caused the SMC to do nothing about it.
