And the 'never say die' Keane, the hard man, flounced out the moment things stopped going his way. Just like he did in Saipan (yes, I know he was making a point about the lack of professionalism in the Irish set up but if you believe in a cause and you want to achieve something, you give it everything even if your back is against the wall).
Is there ever a point for you where you say 'enough is enough'?

As long as you don't mention Roy Keane :emoticon-0105-wink:

You and felltop may be right, he may fail. And I respect the fact you's don't want him.
Just think it harsh slagging him for a decision we know not all the facts. And at the end of the day it was his decision.

Anyway like I say I'm not too worried as we have a decent owner anchoring the club now.

If Keane comes I'll be happy to jump on board the magic carpet :D

Think a visit to Home Bargains is in order.
Need to get some of these again....

Took my eye off making home brew over Christmas, had to buy some booze last days off, nearly choked on the price and the taste :D

Thankfully some pale ale I've made, although young was drinkable last night on my first day off from graft :emoticon-0148-yes: <cheers> <laugh>

There's a lot of talk on this thread about Keane not being tactically astute and so on, to me that isn't the worry. The worry is if he hasn't learnt from his time with Ipswich etc that sometimes a manager needs to tone down the fear factor/criticism.
There's an excellent article from a couple of years ago on The Athletic, behind a paywall, here - with comments from previous players. Pretty much all of them state that he was spot on in terms of preparing the team tactically and organising set pieces and so on.
Just a few excerpts:

"Norris, his former Ipswich captain, recalls being as well prepared for games under Keane as he was at any stage of his career. “The shape, tactics, set pieces — we were well-drilled. We knew what we wanted to do and what the opponents would do.”

"The guy has an amazing football brain. Some of his team-talks were genuinely amazing. He would be very coherent on what he wanted or what was happening. He completely knew the game. He was not always ranting and raving. He had the potential to be a top-class manager.”

"Edwards felt Keane’s demands improved him. He said: “I remember we played Plymouth in my first season at Sunderland. I absolutely tore the left-back a new arsehole. Roy was telling the players, ‘Give Carlos the ball’. I ran so hard up and down. I was cramping up. But then every time I got the ball, Roy was screaming, ‘Run at him!’ I was thinking, ‘Is he ****ing taking the piss?’ I was running off fumes. But I relished it because he knew I had the beating of the guy and he gave me that little push to go the extra mile. There are certain players who are ready to give up when they are tired. That is when he went mental.”

"Coherency" would be a welcome change.

I've already said that I realise that my view isn't the majority view. I find all of this "I want to get out of this **** league" talk both disrespectful and naive. In the same way that I think making disparaging remarks about leagues in other countries is ignorant. Of course the aim is promotion but I don't agree that it is vital that it is this season. I do think that KLD can afford to make a mistake; I am willing to be patient with him. To suggest that I don't want the club to be successful is, frankly, nonsense. I want to see the club build solid foundations that will see it reach its potential and stay there for years to come. That's why I am excited by what KLD appeared to be promising us. To me, Keane doesn't seem to fit with what he has been trying to do. I'm terribly sorry if you don't like that but I'm capable of reaching my own conclusions and I'm not going to change that because everyone else is gettting swept away on a nostalgia trip.

The whole point of a forum is to give people who have differing views the opportunity to state their case and I respect and fully understand why you and others like Fell Top have reservations about Keane coming back. Any appointment we make will not guarantee promotion and at first glance Keane doesn't appear to represent what KLD seemed to want to achieve. However, he knows and 'gets' this club and by his own admission is happy to spend his time coaching the players, which is what he will be doing under a sporting director.

Whether he can work under Speakman is the million dollar question, but while he is a complex person he is also a great motivator, will give the club a lift and was the last manager to actually achieve promotion at this club, which has got to be the sole aim for this season.

Where my opinion differs from yours is that I fully believe that promotion this season is essential, or we risk losing Stewart, Neil and given his rejuvenation, Pritchard. These are all players who will be difficult to replace. Also, a few of the loan players may continue with us in the Championship (Hoff, Roberts and Dajaku could be made permanent). Other loanees like Doyle's parent clubs might see playing for us in the Championship as a good step up in their development. If we fail to get promoted a lot of the continuity will be lost and we will be rebuilding again. That is why I believe Keane is probably the best we can hope for at this late stage of the season to get us promoted.Lets face it, he's got some bloody good players to work with.

If he achieves that and fails to stabilise, then we change it, the same as we would if someone else came in and failed at this or a higher level. It's a gamble for us, but which manager isn't? It's also a gamble for Keane. Fail here and his managerial career is probably over. He came here once with no managerial experience and achieved promotion. This time he has more managerial experience, both in the hot seat and as number 2 to O'Neill and he's got as good a chance as anyone of doing it again.

I respect the fact you do want him. He just wouldn't be my choice. And I'll ****ing exercise my right to say so :emoticon-0105-wink:. If I'm wrong about that, I'll hold my hands up and say I was wrong. I think you're spot on about KLD. I know you and I argue a lot on here but you're a sound fella and, even though @Gordon Armstrong was on the wind up, I'd happily have a beer with you if we ever did bump into each other in real life :emoticon-0150-hands
