Labour have put through a parliamentary motion to have a specific national anthem for England at sporting events. Currently Wales and Scotland have their own, but we are lumbered with the union's trudge fest 'God save the Queen'.
Suggestions for a new anthem are The adaptation of Blake's poem 'Jerusalem'. Elgar's 'Land of hope and Glory' or possibly something altogether different.
Personally I'd go with 'Jerusalem' as it evokes the spirt of Albion and the 'Green and pleasant land' that William Blake likened to the new Jerusalem. It is far more evocative of our country than some poxy worship to a German aristocratic family who only happened on monarchy by accident of birth.
Any other suggestions ?
