Thanks for your kind words Dexter.

Thank you also,Dill, for your suggestion that I would "do a decent job".

Since I am not affiliated with any group, and have heavily criticised their very existence here on many occasions,I would not be an overly popular choice.
On the other hand, popularity should not be the main criteria when choosing Mods.
I agree that I would probably be a "decent" shout for the role, but too many would resent me,and the Forum would possibly suffer.
The new Mods will have to be hardliners and bring those who transgress the rules to book. I would have no trouble doing that.
That would be difficult initially, but once the regular posters see a degree of consistency and fairness at work, this could once again be a good place to visit.
A well modded Forum runs itself after a while, but EVERYONE,myself included, has to take the responsibility for correct, decent behaviour when posting, both here, and elsewhere.

I remain unconvinced that my elevation to the honoured role as a Mod here would be universally welcomed,in fact, some would say"over my dead body",so I suggest other more acceptable candidates be approached.

As musty says **** them Vetch. You know how much of an arguementative sod I am but I would support you being a mod. I know you're a proper Swans fan and that you'd be fair. I think a combination of you and Dexter would be a really good shout on here. Two different types than what we are used to and I'm sure that you both along with Ash could maintain order on here

Thanks for the shout, musty, but I am previously on record as saying that it isn't for me.

Just as well, I suppose. People have "accused" me of being level-headed and sensible  but I'm afraid I'd be a nasty b*****d as a mod. Not for one second would I tolerate abuse of any description including the not-so-subtle use of smilies as a form of insult. It beggars description what goes on here at times, although I have never asked for anyone to be banned, ever, even though there have been many occasions when I wanted to.

However, it would be entirely different if I were a mod. I just wouldn't allow the latitude some of you appear to expect because it is so at odds with how I expect people to conduct themselves. Posters come on here to swap opinions, exchange banter and agree to disagree. They do not come here to be insulted, not even by implication. The board should be a place of entertainment and relaxation, not somewhere that throws your stress levels through the roof.

I think never and Valley did a difficult job very well and I'm sorry to see them leave but I can understand it. It's impossible to please everyone and they were permanently under fire from someone or other. How can that be right? They and other mods give of their free time to make this a better place for us all, so it's very sad that they have been driven away as it were. I'd ban the lot of you if it was called for and then there'd be no board, so best leave me where I am.

As for Dexter, this strikes me as a good call for obvious reasons. I just hope that everyone gives him and the other mods the support they need and deserve to perform a difficult and thankless task.

Final comment. Some of you may be aware that I am a writer. It's a precarious way to earn some readies at the best of times. There's no buffer of a guaranteed monthly income and you live or die by what you produce. If truth be told, I spend far too much time on here anyway when I should be writing for cash. I do so because I mostly enjoy it and I like to spend spare moments in a friendly community who share the love I have for the Swans. Modding would take too much of time I don't have to spare. Consequently, I'm always prepared to support the mods for doing what I cannot because they devote their free time to help the rest of us enjoy the board. Some Posters should remember that more often and stop quibbling because things aren't always handled to their liking. In other words, I respectfully invite such people to either put up or shut up.

I really like your Post No.64,Ivor. You appear to be singing off the same song sheet as myself.

This Forum has fallen so far off the decency scale it will take a monumental effort to restore it to something worthwhile.

It SHOULD be somewhere,as you eloquently put it,that people can "spend spare moments in a friendly community";chew the fat;share an opinion;have a laugh;be different;play Devil's Advocate, etc.,WITHOUT the constant fear of being attacked and insulted for your point of view.

All that has to stop,or else better the place is closed down.

I don't remember the old BBC Forum being as bad, although it did have it's moments, and I was in some of them.

A few members have suggested I take on this most onerous task, and I am mulling it over.

However, were I to do so, I would need some assurances from the main body of posters that they were,a) happy with my appointment, and b)prepared to pull together, cut out all the nonsense, and also put in the time and effort necessary to bring this Forum back into the real World.

This Forum represents Swansea City Football Club, and we are all proud followers,so why not extend that pride to this place?

Remember, there are thousands of posters out there on other Forums who visit and judge both us,our team, and our City,by what they read here, and how they are treated when visiting.

So,who wants to repair this Forum? Anybody out there care to respond?

No offence but I don't think the mods need our support at all. That isn't as daft as it sounds. It's a position of authority and should be respected for sure and we trust them to do their job properly but a strong mod is needed to sort this mess out and that requires no ****ing about with warning after warning for the same individuals.

The rules are set out somewhere. Read them and abide by them. Simple. If a rule is open to interperetation then the mod should interperet it and do what he thinks is necessary, and yes that may mean nothing at all. No explanation is needed other than to the person banned setting out the reasons why and pointing to the relevant part of the rule. This can be handled via PM if that's possible after a ban. If not, PM beforehand. Anyone asking why so and so was banned publicly should be ignored unless the mod chooses to do so via PM.

If someone says "you're talking rubbish" of course don't ban. We all get a little heated at times. But if someone says "I see the moron is at it again" it's 48 hours minimum imo. No warnings - posters should know the score by now. Repeated name-calling and it's a life ban. Sorry, but as others have said we come here to debate the Swans. Sometimes we try and convince others that we're right and they are wrong but abuse and name-calling shows a complete lack of wit and intelligence imo and makes it unpleasant not only for the person being insulted but for those who have to wade through a sea of abusive posts. If anyone says 'man up' again I'm going to go into meltdown <laugh> But seriously, nobody should have to view abuse no matter who it's aimed at.

For what it's worth anyone like Vetch / ivor/ Dex/ KDA would do a grand job because all have shown an ability to reason which implies an ability to interperet rules and apply them which has to be a prerequisite. <ok>

Vetch, I think you would be a great candidate. It doesn't matter if people don't agree with you becoming a mod, hard luck.

Its a pity that the main threads on here atm are about mods. lack of respect, wumming , bans , abuse ,what ever happened to the football .We all have a point of view and some express it more strongly than others ,the trouble with any written word is there is an absence of tone ,smile , frown and any other adjective you could use when expressing yourself verbally and some of the comments expressed on here wouldn't be accepted in the 'real world", We are in the majority like minded individuals with a common goal and I think that has been lost for a while now chill out ffs and get back to what the purpose of this board is about .

Since two Mods have resigned,it's inevitable that threads re replacements will tend to dominate. That will change when new recruits sign up.

The Forum has lost it's way,and in so doing, has seemingly mislaid the reason for it having been created in the first place,i.e.,to predominantly, but not exclusively, discuss football, and football related matters.

To bring it back on track,a different attitude needs to be encouraged, one of tolerance, and understanding.

Matthew is correct when he points out the failings of the "written word" as compared to face to face discussion, but it's always been like that.

However, that should not excuse the level of insults that have been bandied around for too long, rendering this site unusable, and unattractive, to many.
