I don't care how well he's done in the Mickey Mouse leagues or for Austrailia against part timers. He's proved nothing.
Since when were Chile and the Netherlands, not to mention Japan and other sides we've played along the way been part-timers? Management is a philosophy based business and about managing personalities. It's only the latter he's somewhat limited in although I'd argue he's managed some pretty arrogant ****s.
The suggestion to hire AP first came up on here about 3- 4 years ago pre Bruce's appointment. At the time he was on a roll with the Brisbane Roar and they were on a 36 match unbeaten run and pundits here were saying that they were playing the most exciting football ever seen in the A League. No way he will leave his current position before 2018. England v Australia friendly at the end of May will give a chance to assess his progress at building a competitive side. I have only a passing interest in both teams. The last time I attended an England game was in 1953 when they were hammered by Hungary at Wembley and I have never been to watch Australia.
He hasn't proven anything outside of Australia but I would have no doubt that he will coach at higher levels in the future.
Ariggo Sacchi was a shoe salesman who never played professional football. He went on to win 2 European cups as a manager and is the last manager to retain it.
I took this from the characterization of your avatar, "Walter Sobchak": Quote: "Walter has an unwavering faith in his own judgment and he'll be unlikely to admit that he is or could be wrong. He employs an interrogation technique of confronting a suspect with direct evidence in order for them to 'crack', but even though it does not sort the slightest bit of effect, Walter still thinks it does". UNQUOTE: I think this pretty well sums up your attitude to other posters Walter.
****ing terrible terrible player. I was just commenting to someone last night about the commentators waxing lyrical about mooy, when the reality is he wouldn't get into most championship sides. Your best player by a mile is the lad who got a move to Germany. I always forget his name. He's inconsistent at the best of times. I've been here 2 and a half years now and I really can't watch A-league football. I really have tried but it's league 1 standard at a push. And who the **** wants to was watch that if you have no affinity to the teams playing?
****ing terrible player? He is ripping the A-League to shreds, which is no mean feat these days, and has something like 20 assists for the season. He is also turning it on for the national side. Mooy, Rogic, and Kruse (who I think is the player you're thinking of?) all have bright futures. Mooy would walk into quite a few Championship sides. Just look at the guys he's playing alongside. He's far better than Luongo who was one of the best players in League 1 and is now struggling with QPR admittedly, and I'd put him level with Rogic, who is looking very impressive with Celtic. A-League would comfortably fit into League 1 (except CCM and Jets), with the top sides being competitive in the Championship.
No mean feat? Come off it. A lad who I played with at hall road back in the day captains the bentleigh greens in Melbourne and has had 2 offers from A league clubs. But he's turned them down because he's got a decent job as a tradie and doesn't want to throw it away for a 2 year A-league contract in his early 30's. Point I'm making is Hall road rangers to A league is achieveable. That makes it Micky mouse.
Trust me this lad was a decent larker. But if he moved back to England he would only be playing semi pro
I was hoping we signed Ryan back when we were linked to him in Bruce's first season. Recognised the quality then when he was still with CCM. Leckie is also very promising, but I'm surprised you think he's better than the likes of Kruse, Rogic, Mooy etc. Heck Jedinak went from A-League player to EPL captain in two seasons.
Then no wonder A-League clubs wanted him! Vardy was non-league four years ago. My point is anyone can get signed by a professional club if they have the ability and application. I don't think players who played non-league in England being pursued by A-League clubs reflects poorly on the league necessary.
Vardy is the exception that proves the rule. He also came from Fleetwood, who are currently in League One, they're hardly Hall Road Rangers, who are a local pub team.
Boyd, Austin, etc. also came from non-League to look decent in the PL. The A-League is not the PL but that's hardly ground breaking.
